No jokes please... I am contemplating shortening a rifle stock to more exactly fit me.  To be beneficial it would help to know what my LOP is.  How is this measured?  I find the typical 14"+- LOP of most modern rifles just too long for use with bulky outer clothes that I typically wear while hunting.

Many tactical shooters have the same issue.  I don't have an answer to your question, but can suggest an A1 type stock an ACE skeleton Stock or a Sully stock for several options for shorter LOP.

Usually you can check by holding the weapon straight up with your elbow bent 90* and it should have the butt against your upper arm and your finger at the trigger.

How can I put aa A1 stock on my 30-06 Savage 110????  Just kidding-  My LOP is short- most normal scope mount positions will not permit me to get a full view through the scope too.  I wound up taking a saw to my shotgun stock, shortening by a full inch and refitting the recoil pad.  Much better fit, but I would like something much more precise.

Nice try. Where do you think you are, man?!?!

Generally, most men overestimate their length of pull by 2" or so.

use a yard stick, hook your trigger finger over the end. place you fore arm at a 90 deg angle to you upper arm. measure to the crook of your elbow. take this measurement and transfer to stock. Subtract the thickness of the pad and you have the proper cut length.
