Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Great lookin dog, Cane? Yes, Cane Corso. I've heard they are pretty hard dogs to train, have you found this to be the case? Not any worse than a stubborn Lab that I have had. Max is a tough dog. Cane Corso's are very athletic, muscular and have a strong character. Our guy needed for me to be the alpha and tough with him to gain his respect. He tests me quite often and they tell me he will until death. Now that he is older and neutered (BIG change after the surgery) he is doing much better with my wife. Since I am always with him he and I are much closer in terms of relationships. I can point or stand a certain way as a command and he will respond. The best advice I can give is that from day one you have to be strong and consistent with them. Never give an inch. The other is to use heavy duty tools that are readily available at retail stores. The prong collar is a MUST for these guys because of their weight and strength. I do not use a e-collar on Max since my wife thinks they are the devil. This in turn made is much tougher on me to train him. The good side is that they are extremely loyal and protective. No one comes close to my wife when they are together. Max patrols our home and property at all times. We had to install an eight foot fence since he was able to clear the six footer we had. I do not use any systems, video tapes, etc. Just plain and simple one word commands and persistence. |
