I guess that so much time has passed since high school that I've forgotten this kind of stuff.

How do I figure :

If 250 = 55%, what number is equal to 100%
      OR
If 250 = 55%, what number is equal to 45%

A formula to plug into Excel would be fabulous!!!

I should be embarrassed but it's late and I'm old.

250/x=55/100

cross multiply

55x=25000

solve

x=454.55

Quoted:

cross multiply
55x=25000
solve
x=454.55

I recognize this stuff, it looks like algebra.  Even if I close one eye and hold my head sideways, I still can't figure this out.
If you could make it look easier such as multiple 250 by a specific number to get the 55/45 split or multiply 55 by a specific number to get the 45% portion or something like that, I could get it straight in my head.

Thanks!

Proportions- two fractions set equal to each other

part/whole = %/100

fill in the data with an x for the unknown, cross multiply , set the products equal and solve

dangit, beat by a math geek

once the proportion is set up, take the two numbers that are diagonal from each other and multiply them together.  then divide by the number that is diagonal from the x.  that number is "x", your answer.

google khan academy and watch the video on proportions

.55x = 250 where x = 100% of the number that 250 represents 55% of

x = 250/.55

x = 454.5

That help?
