I need a material that has a UTS of around 150 MPa and a modulus of around 20 GPa. I've already looked at non tempered 6061 Al but I need something else that is not aluminum. Any recommendations? Thanks 607 |
Ahhhh, very cool. Perhaps looking to wood or plastic is the best route for that. ...but then again, what about hitting up the local butcher or pet store for cow or pig bones? |

Matweb Use the search page at Matweb. You can enter your desired SU and E values, the type of material (thermoplastic, thermoset plastic, etc) and come up with a material. They seem to be having server problems at the moment so take a look tomorrow. I have a chunk of TecaPEEK HT on my desk that looks and feels like "living" deer sternum bone. My basic search for polymer, SU between 140 and 160 and E between 15 and 25 gives a glass filled PC/ABS blend at the top of the list and 155 more choices after that. |
I don't know what your experience level is or whatever, but there is much more to the material properties of bones that give them their characteristics than merely UTS and Modulus. Any kind of metal is probably not going to be very useful for simulating human bones. What's wrong with using other animal bones? Why do you need some other material to simulate bone when bone is pretty easy to get? |
...submarines for Iran? ...sidewalks? ...junkyard fencing?
