FORT PIERCE — A man accused of brandishing a handgun during a weekend altercation at a BP gas station on North U.S. 1 faces charges, according to a recently released arrest affidavit.
Arthur Sanders, 24, of the 1400 block of 35th Avenue in Vero Beach, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed firearm and resisting without violence following the 12:50 a.m. Sunday incident.
A witness said a man brandished a handgun during a dispute with the cashier that precipitated when the clerk activated the wrong fuel pump at the business in the 1800 block of North U.S. 1, according to the affidavit.
“The young man threatened to blow the cashier’s brains out,” the witness said in a written statement. “As I turned around, I saw a chrome (and) black pistol. The guy pulled it out of his right pocket.”
She said the gunman was spotted in a Pontiac at a pump. He was with two or three other men, who were outside at the time and not involved.
Police stopped a vehicle in which Sanders was a passenger. He ran, but was apprehended and was found with a .32-caliber handgun. the report stated.
Sanders told police he “partially pulled” a handgun from his pocket. Police viewed surveillance footage, but the gun couldn’t be seen from the camera’s vantage point.
