Whole lotta fun! I finally got to go full auto. Not only did I get to shoot one, I got to shoot a few quality NFA icons:
Not sure how to make hot (figured it out) Check it out |
| Hard to say on Favs. I really like the M16 shorty. The suppressed is cool too. I was most accurate with the MP5. The thompson was a pleasure but heavy. The G3 made me smile a lot––had some jump to it and ejected brass like 20 yards away but not accurate for me in FA. The UZI is fun and classic. I am glad I got to shoot all of them but I guess the M16 is my favorite just because I have ARs. |

Shooting different FA guns really shows you what is actually usable and what is cool. The G3's suck on FA and the Thompson, while cool from the movies, is not that great to shoot either. My fave that is halfway common.....the good old M16 in various forms preferably with a beta mag. |

G3 must have been a beast on FA. It is different to day the least but probably my 2nd favorite just because of the power. This one had an metal handguard––after a couple of mags, I had to hold the bipod! We were shooting 4x4's cut off about a foot long standing up on the hill. They would fall and rock back when hit. The M16 would sometimes pass through without knocking them over. When the G3's 7.62 hit em, they went flying waaaay back! |
|
It is a blast. I've done the M2, M16, M4, SAW, M60, AK47, AK74, Thompson, M3 Grease gun, Uzi, and MAC 10.
I'm not crazy about the flat metal folding stock on the Uzi against my check, but like the design. Right now, I don't own any full autos. I might get some if a trust would allow multiple people to use them. But, I get a kick out of my AR's. I can shoot them pretty fast, I guess. |
|
Quoted: Quoted: What the heck flew away from the 2nd M16 when you shot the first round? That sure wasn't a piece of brass! Dust cover? That is what I thought, but it looks like it is still there. ETA: Happens with the first M16 too, was there a grip plug in there?

so did your pee pee tingle? Had to. Mine did just watching. I'm quite jealous. Thinking about buying something full auto. I guess it's like buying a CD if you think about it. You might have spent a shitload of money to buy it, but you can always sell it and get your money back if you need to? DO WANT! I've never shot full auto. |

So, no longer a virgin, eh? Have worked on and fired M2, M240,M60, M249. M2 was my favorite. Also built them Also, Reising (junk), M1 & m1928 Thompson, M3, MP44 (yes, the grand daddy of Assault Rifles), MP40, MP38, Uzi, M10, (super fast), Mini Uzi (again, super rate of fire) Swede K, and BAR. Favorite in this group was the M1928. Sweet old SMG. Class III is the way. Groucho |

Groucho well running reisings are smooth, fast, controllable, and comfortable. they are great shooting guns and, considering the ease with which they can be made to run well, i think they are one of the best deals in the transferable market. polish the bolt, and shorten the firing pin just a hair, and most reisings will run without problems. |

The cocking mechanisim was located oddly and filled with junk, crud, mud in combat. The internal fire controls were weak and way too elegant for a battle gun. Also, it was a bitch to work on the control group. OK, I've got an attitude here and I admit it. You are correct in that when they ran, they were smooth. I'll take a nice simple Thompson or MP 40. That said, it's been a few years since I've done any of this work and it was in a production/repair shop with all kinds of time pressure. I love firearms, but there's no time to putz with them when on the clock. It's "get it done, make it run and on to the next job." Kinda took some of the fun out of it.......except for test firing Groucho |

My favorite auto in the army was M240B
I got to shoot hundreds from M240B –– Awesome M249 –– Meh, pretty good Mk 48 –– Overrated not very reliable but they are very light Mk 46 –– Ditto. M4 –– Teh Suck (3 round burst is only good for close range) M2 –– The army's are way too beat up, need a new .50 or new production (maybe they have it but we didn't get em)...parts broke at a rediculous pace, shells ruptured consitantly (yes headspace and timing was correct) I think the new ones go on the generals' MRAPs that stay inside the wire. Mk 19 –– Same deal as the M2, and not enough training on them. AK 47 –– Very nice on auto. |

M249 SAW M60E3 M16A2 MP5 40 cal. MP5 9mm MP5SD MAC-11 My favorite is the MP5SD. Don't need ear protection and could empty an entire magazine into the head area of the target without throwing a single round (Roughly 6-8 yards). Incredibly controllable! I cannot stand the 3 round burst. I understand the theory behind it, but frankly I think it is worthless. Congrats on "popping your cherry" with FA. Sure is fun, isn't it! |

Looks fun. But I would hate to have to feed those things...I guess if you can afford FA then you can afford ammo though. If I could own any FA it would have to be a M-16 with a 22LR upper ![]() I have shot FA a bit (Ammo supplied by USAF M249 M60 M16A1/A2, M4, GAU/GUU-5 GAU-2 (From MH-53J) M-2 (From MH-53J) AK-47/AK-74 G3 MP5 (Gun store in Las Vegas back in 1989) |

My personal favorite that I have fired has to be the M249 SAW. Awesome weapon. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c289/Lumpy223/SAWLUM.jpg Sure wish I still owned my AR18...................... That SAW is sweet! It is on my list of "want to shoot". I wonder how much they cost––ther can't be too many of them out there for sale?? |

Quoted: Good eye––that was a grip plug with insert. It was hard plastic but seemed kind of cheap to me. The MG owner had just put that grip on but every time we shot it, it flew open and dropped the grip insert ![]() He finally left it out... That would annoy the piss out of me. |
