Or, how not to rob a gun shop.

http://www.macombdaily.com/general-news/20161215/cops-follow-footprints-for-three-miles-arrest-pair-for-attempted-burglary-at-roseville-gun-range

Two would-be burglars are in custody after Roseville police followed their shoe prints in the snow for three miles following an attempted early morning break-in Thursday at a local gun range, officials said.

Police said the culprits and a third individual broke the front door glass of Peters Indoor Range and Gun Shop, on Gratiot Avenue south of 12 Mile Road, and hooked a tow strap to the security bars on the door. Using a 2006 Dodge pickup truck, they unsuccessfully attempted to pull the bars off the door at 5:30 a.m.

The pickup became stuck in the snow, and the trio ran east, police said. Responding to a burglary alarm, Officers Michael Saier and Lauren Brockmann started following the suspects’ shoe prints for approximately two hours. With assistance from fellow officers, police located two suspects at a home in the Greater Mack-12 Mile Road area in St. Clair Shores, Roseville Deputy Police Chief Donald Glandon said.

So you can rob gun shops in the snow?

Used to shoot at that range when I lived not far from it. The stupid city won't grant them permits to update the place so it's been in a sorry state of disrepair since I was a kid - and that's been a while.

Glad these morons didn't succeed and got caught.

Criminals usually aren't the brightest fellows. This story holds up the stereotype.

My first response in my mind to this was....

criminal masterminds... gotta love them when combined with snow.

I was on a Fairbanks, AK grand jury that went kind of like this. Three "youths" called dominos to an abandoned house having ordered 3 dozen hot wings with extra blue cheese packets, a large peperroni, and a 2 liter of soda. Delivery driver shows up, gets pistol whipped unconscious, phone wallet, 3 dozen wings(with extra blue cheese) and a peperoni pizza get taken. Youths decide to run home. driver wakes up, calls cops on passer by phone. cops show up and follow tracks. about 100 yards away they find a hot wing bone in the snow... follow tracks/hot wing bones, then find a pistol magazine (blood on it), then a blue cheese dipping thing, then a pizza crust.... ect ect, end up following the trail down to an apartment building with 3 doors(left, right and center). Since it was inside they didn't know which door to get a warrant for but they felt a warrant and raid would be ok. So they SNIFFED the door handle and the one that smelled like hot wings... ended up calling land lord to see who lived there, because they wouldn't answer the door. land lord gives number of tenant, tenant says her son is home alone but land lord can open up for the cops because obviously her baby "din do nuffin" and he should be at school so it couldn't be him at home..., cops open up door, no hot wings, no pizza, no gun, but 3 young men. one cop asks to throw gum out "so it doesn't get stuck to someone's shoe", opens garbage can and wingbones... Cops ask them for ID(while on phone with owner who starts yelling at her kid for cutting class), get ID and one gets up off couch where the cusion doent sit right, so gets owner consent to search. low and behold a pizza box... and a blue cheese packet(incidentally the count of blue cheese packets found in snow and at house added up to the number and brand delivered), and other cushion other kid was on had the hot wings(also counted up exactly as should based on the garbage can, and , last cushion was the HIGHPOINT (with no mag)...
