Seriously why in the FUCK would anybody go there for vacation, fun ect..... .I've talked to some Mexicans that saw other family members brutally murdered, and I've seen MANY Live Leak vids. showing what they do with no mercy at all.I just can't understand why people would "want" to visit that place, some white Americans even retire there...

The food is great. Most of the people are very friendly and easy-going. Things are cheap. Unpossible!
But seriously...go to the tourist-dependent places and 99 times out of 100 you're safer than in the downtown business districts of LA our Houston. The people and police do not put up with criminals that mess with tourist dollars unless they're outgunned by a cartel. Cancun/Cozumel for example. I heard a couple interesting stories from locals about vigilantism in Cozumel on people who hurt tourists. S.S.S. in the jungle. |

I was told the same BS when we went on a cruise to Cabo and Puerto Vallarta ... "OMG OH TEH NOES CARTELS WILL RAPE YOUR EYESOCKET!!!" Had a great time, came home with both eyeballs intact. Think about that for a sec of what the Australian former PM said "DONT GO TO AMERICA!" ... How silly is that? Just stay out of the shitfuck places and you will live. Tourists getting killed is nothing new ANYWHERE. Last month an Italian woman was mowed down by some sick bastard in LA, German man (or was it couple) was murdered in Florida. Didn't we lose an American in Turkey? |

... Didn't we lose an American in Turkey? Not so sure that example will sink in, the peanut gallery here isn't the type to advocate travel to Turkey. In fact, I can easily imagine a thread with several people actually saying such a person deserved to die for going there. |

It is mostly the boarder areas and drug corridors that suck. A lot of the country is sparsely populated and about as dangerous as going to a state park. Yes there are bears, but I've never crossed paths with one. There are now a good number military checkpoints all the way down to Cabo San Lucas. It keeps most of the scumbags off the main roads.
The weather down there is great most of the time, fishing is awesome and the local people are great. I spent about 2 weeks down there this past December driving around the lower and western parts of Baja. We stayed in a really nice 5 star hotel just south of Loreto, I think it was $275-290 a night? cheap for what is roughly a 800 sq ft master suite with kitchen, 2 baths, laundry, Jacuzzi etc. Some places were new to us but not scary at all, going from Asuncion up to Tortuga along a mostly dirt/sand road. Nothing but total off the grid type fishing/desert villages. I used to do these kinds of trips all the time then took a break as things got weird, late 90's to 2006, but they now seem to be making a little bit of a comeback. Flying directly down to the resorts is probably the best bet to avoid trouble. |

The beaches and fishing on the Sea of Cortez in Baja are just beautiful. The people are awesome. ( they sweep their dirt floor huts). Did I mention the fishing ? Anyways it's safe if you know where to go and not to go.
A lot of expats down there. It's cool bro. Check it out. Eta Floridians and Gulf coasters have great salt fishing also BUT, the desert beaches are simply awesome. Did I mention the Dorado, rooster fish, Marlin, Yellowtail, Hammerheads etc. |
