M2A1 US WWII 105mm howitzer. One of only a very few in private hands in the United States. This cannon is capable of blank fire only. There is a 1" steel bar welded inside the barrel to prevent loading a live round. The howitzer comes with two inert rounds: the M1 HE shell and the M67 HEAT shell. 60 shell cases are also included for loading blanks. The howitzer weighs around 5,000 pounds. Breech/firing mechanism works flawlessly, as does the traversing and elevation. Armor shields swing up and down with ease. This cannon shakes the earth when it is fired and can be heard from miles away. Located in Paris,TN and can be picked up or shipped via freight. Photos below; video links of function testing at bottom of page. $47,000.

Thanks,
Marshall

I suppose it depends on if that bar was driven through the bbl and welded, or just welded.

Know any 12,000 yard shooting ranges? (that's 7 miles)

Also, EACH explosive projectile requires a $200 tax stamp (non-refundable when you fire it).

I wonder if its upper would fit on my lower.

Cool, but this Howitzer needs more functionality.

A oxy/acetylene torch and a die grinder ought to get things back to where they need to be nicely.

$47k? A small price to pay to be able to keep the neighbors in check, in fine style.

You don't need 7 miles - just a place.

Actually, you can register the case. You can then reload it.

No problem. Lots of guys do that with their 40mm grenade launchers

A new carry gun to finally stop the 9 vs. .45 debate. .
Link Posted: 4/30/2009 8:01:07 AM EDT
It needs to be mounted on a Sherman tank.  There were some infantry support versions of the Sherman that was equipped with the 105mm howitzer.

Lets say that you have a few registered 105mm empty cases. How would you go about buying the explosive projectiles (as it pertains to the legal issues)? Do you send a copy of your BATF approved 105mm empty case destructive device registration form to the seller of the explosive projectiles, and then he can legally ship you as many explosive projectiles as you want?

Explosive projos need to be individually registered...

The 'register the case' thing does not work for HE.

That said, if you registered the gun as DD you could fire all of the non-HE projos you wanted (eg flechette, canister, or solid-shot)....

IIRC - you can't own a breech loading cannon. You CAN own a muzzle loading one. I have heard of people taking WWII and WWI howitzers and cannons, welding the breaches shut, and then using them as muzzle loaders.

Do you know if Lee makes dies for it? I already have the Classic Turret press.

I've seen some privately owned breech loaders.

I think, but cant confirm, that you're wrong.

It might be  a state thing... Or needs to be under a certain size. Or maybe one you need an explosives license and one you don't.

It was from a guy I worked at walmart with. He was a younger pharmacist and his idea of a good weekend was shooting holes on old cars.
Link Posted: 4/30/2009 8:58:43 AM EDT
The M101s we used in Vietnam looked the same. There might be some difference in the sight and slight differences in the breeching mechanism but generally the same.

I have pulled the string on several of the M101s and they are big fun.

There was a fully functional firing 90mm for sale in Tennessee last year. Only 120k. I forget the name of the company who owned it, they make suppressors.

I wonder.  If you were to fill empty HE cases with tannerite, would they be going fast enough to detonate on impact?

I dont think it can have rifling either.  Thats why black powder beer can mortars are legal.  Smooth bore + black powder = a firearm in the BATFE's all knowing eye.

I`d take it in semi-auto.
