I read a post somewhere, and now I can't find it, that stated that you must take a newly acquired M1 Garand from CMP to a qualified gunsmith, before firing it to make sure it's safe. I thought that they tested them before shipping? I am not finding anything like that on the CMP website. For those that have one. Did you do that? Or did you just go out and shoot it? I sent my paperwork in the other day for a Springfield Service Grade and am reading everything I can. |

Quoted: (a) I hate you (b) It's perfectly safe I have a question that just popped into my mind. IIRC you can't order one because you're not a citizen, right? Is your wife a citizen? Could she get one as a Christmas present to her favorite lil Dutch boy? Just tossing around ideas. |

But, since she's not into guns, it seems disingenuous to have her order one. So instead, I've been paying the "gunshow markup" for the Garands I own.

Check your firing pin.
I took mine to the range without inspecting all the internals and there was a WW2 vet with his son shooting. I let the WW2 have the first shot out of the gun and it just went *click*. His face still lit up as he got to hold a Garand again and thanked me even though it didn't fire. I got home and tore it down and my firing pin had broken in two. I got ahold of CMP, who was very surprised at this and asked that I ship it back so they could inspect it and they sent me a new one within a week to replace it. |

My "tanker" needs a big (if younger) brother. |
