Hell, RJInks and gwitness got all three of my suggestions in one fell swoop... I guess I'll provide authors and links, though. Chickenhawk by Robert Mason Thud Ridge by Col Jack Broughton, Ret. (you can find it cheaper) On Yankee Station by John B. Nichols and Barrett Tillman |

There's one called "Chickenhawk". Can't remember who wrote it but it's a great account of the Huey pilots from Ft. Rucker to all areas of Vietnam. Read it three times....tiz a good read. Yep, it was my favorite book in high school. If my eyesight wasn't so crappy, I probably would of tried to become Army Aviator. |

Xin Loi, Viet Nam : Thirty-One Months of War: A Soldier's Memoir by Al Sever
When Thunder Rolled by Ed Rasimus Palace Cobra by Ed Rasimus 100 Missions North by Ken Bell Headhunters by Matthew Brennan Hunter Killer Squadron by Matthew Brennan Scream of Eagles : The Dramatic Account of the U.S. Navy's Top Gun Fighter Pilots and How They Took Back the Skies Over Vietnam by Robert Wilcox Clashes : Air Combat Over North Vietnam, 1965-1972 by Marshall L. Michel, III That should get you started. I've read all of these and all are very good books. The last one (Clashes) basically mentions every dogfight fought over North Vietnam from beginning to end. I would also highly recommend most of the others. I included some interesting helicopter related books among that list, to include the 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry....some real wild men who literally terrorized the VC/NVA. |
