Wedge of iceberg lettuce with some dressing, usually blue cheese, drizzled over it.

just what it says.
It's a wedge-shaped section of a head of lettuce, like you'd slice a cantaloupe. it's a solid salad, in effect.
I'd skip it and have something else. Salad isn't food; it's what food eats.

Are they really just cutting a wedge of plain old iceberg and pouring some fatty dressing over it and calling it a dish?  Tha fuck? You could do that at home in about  a minute, I hope they aren't charging more than a buck for it.

actually a salad from a very long time ago

Up to the mid 60's an Iceberg Salad was an "IN" salad for menu presentation, it was BIG, Drizzled with lumpy  Roquefort Dressing on a full dinner plate and was a
presentation that made people watch the waiter carrying it across the room.
I Beleive it orginated at Delmonico's
the amount of food you get for your money today, Vs 20 to 30 years ago is FREAKING HUGE
when I was an apprentice prepping raw cuts for dinner menu, not lunch, DINNER a chicken breast  was 6oz, a Beef Filet 5oz, 5 16/20 shrimp to an entree 7oz for fish and a 1lb lobster being about the average when steamed whole. 5oz if used in a salad or pasta dish etc. so my comparison that big wedge of lettuce looked like something really special...
Then
in the early 90's the LAND WHALES started waddling into fine dining operations expecting a 20oz steak for their $20 with salad, potato, veg, and HUGE Desserts for $3 or they
would BITCH to high Heaven...

A wedge salad is a classic salad; any decent, higher end, continental style restaurants and apparently some chain places will usually have it on the menu.

Oh and that big wine glass looking thing on your table is for water

Always get a wedge salad if available.........most salads come from some bullshit pre-mixed salad mix that has been packaged for god knows how long. Wedge salads indicate that the lettuce came straight from the head. and heads are always gonna be fresher.

It was a large wedge of lettuce with the best homemade Thousand Island dressing I've ever had, with a generous helping of still-hot bacon on it.
