The person in question is a gun store clerk who is claiming his son won the Silver Star in Iraq with the USMC.
Claimed his son used the two 1911s he send over there with him (after obtaining the USMC paperwork for his son to carry personally owned weapons in Iraq) to rout an enemy attack after his LAV was disabled.
Apparently his son was standing up, out in the open, shooting one hand on the hip, competition pistol style, sending guys flying back 3 feet, while his Lt's M9 was only making dust fly off their shirts.
This was in addition to numerous other seemingly-BS remarks about his own military service.

Question - was the 513th Military Intelligence Brigade ever in Somalia?
He produced a challange coin, said it was the last unit he was with, and that his last assignment was in Mogadishu.

ETA: 513th, not 315th

One thing I did notice on the Medals list:  A whole lot of Marine Reservists have been awarded them.  I wonder if the Active side still talks trash?

How much is dad blowing up son's job as camp KP specialist and how much is son faking to dad about being camp KP specialist?

I just gotta wonder - he may be the victim of the dupe as well.

Dad claimed to have gone to the awards ceremony, that his son would deny ever having been awarded any medals, and that his son actually tried to dodge the medal ceremony, but that the Corps keps calling.
Given some of the other BS he was feeding me and my companions, I have no doubt this is all coming from dad.

I am a former Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) Marine myself and would be very curious to know what LAR Battalion this liars son is in. The LAR community is a small one (3 active +1 reserve BN) and plenty of my buddies are still in that can help "verify" this story.

There is a reserve company B Co. 4th LAR BN out in Maryland at Ft. Detrick.

Didn't catch the salesman's last name, but I will be going back there this week.
I cannot stand people like this - why lie to make yourself look better?

I'm not sure I'm tracking. If you don't know his last name, how do you know that he is lying about his son getting the medal?

His story is definatly bullshit, but that doesn't mean that his son did't actually get awarded the medal for something.

His son's first name is Benjamin.
Only one Marine was awarded the Silver Star with that name.
LCpl Benjamin Gonzalez jumped on a grenade and was awarded the silver star.
