I want a light jacket for spring/summer. I don't want a Tier 1 tactical jacket, just a Tier 2 or 3 would be nice (aka, I don't want to look like an operator but I also don't want to look like I just stepped out of an Abercrombie ad). Waterproof or resistant would be nice but not necessary. I would like one that isn't too warm but would cut the cold in the morning.
I have a rain coat that is light but when it's hot out it just traps the heat and makes me sweat. I have fleece jackets but those are too warm. Any recommendations? |

Good light jacket |
| It looks like they discontinued the exact model I have, but I've been wearing something similar to this for a couple years now. Despite the lousy reputation some NF stuff has had, it's held up very well for me and I've been really happy with it. |

I bought a Columbia shell jacket for $100 at Fred Meyer that looks amazing, works well, and didn't break the bank. It sort of looks operatory, but not enough to look like every other tactical jacket people buy. It's tight enough to look good when I go out for the night, but loose enough for concealed carry. It blocks the wind, and is rainproof, but isn't hot. If a little extra warmth is needed a thermal shirt, hoodie, or sweater underneath is just perfect. |

Here's a great lightweight jacket. The Wingshooter

| Soft shell is the way to go. I practically live in mine from 20 degrees to 70. They all work basically the same, just look for a sale. I have an REI One soft shell that is lined with fleece and also looks kinda dress and a Propper softshell for more rugged environments. |

The Arc'teryx looks awesome but for that price I would want it water resistant. While looking at some of the suggestions here, I came across a Marmot Tempo for $60 on Amazon so I went with that one. We'll see how it works. Thanks for the help! 60 bucks is a good deal. Sorry, I thought the Arc'teryx was water resistant. My bad. |

It's made of "cotton canvas" so I'd expect it to be somewhat water resistant. On the bright side, at least it won't melt like the Marmot. |

Water resistant was optional on my list but I'm a cheap bastard when it comes to stuff I want. If it's something I need then I don't mind paying some $$$. |

Get a light beige wind style jacket and you instantly look 15 years older. It's pretty awesome. I have a Columbia one like this. At 29 people used to call me "sir" when I wore it http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41DNSzZO1xL._SX190_CR0,0,190,246_.jpg Speed +1 I have a Kohl's Light beige jacket that appeared at my house. The funny thing is no one [my wife, my parents, my sister, friends, etc.] will own up buying it or leaving it at my house. And, I'm too cheap to not wear it. James |

Speed Aw crap, I already wear Rockports. I guess I should just get the coat and be done with it. |

three ways to go, depending on your style, budget, and weather proof-ness:
very weatherproof, expensive, more finished looking: Filson shooting/wingshooting field coat medium weatherproof, medium expense, "tactical" but very utilitarian: Pathfinder/Jumper smock (new Canadian ones are even better than the old SAS patterned ones) lightweight, blend in, casual, low expense: Adidas track jacket in either the heavier blends or lightweight nylon. |
