I want to set off some consumer grade fireworks on the 4th, and do it legally.  So, I got a permit application from my local fire chief.  On the application, it says I need to provide proof of $200,000 liability insurance.  Where would I get this!?  I'm guessing I need a secondary policy (in addition to my home owners insurance)?

Thoughts?

I recommend corporate sponsorship.

You must not deal w/ the government much - how do you expect to get a permit from them in a week? I don't know how fast the state of VA operates, but chances are you aren't going to see that permit.

Well, my county (who issues the permit) told me to bring it over & I can pick up a permit on the spot.  They seem to be ok w/ fireworks providing you get a permit - they then notify the sheriff's office & the fire department so they leave you alone...

I guess I'll just ignore the .gov again this year.  I just don't know where to get the freakin insurance!  Wonder how much liability insurance my homeowners provides?

What kind of fireworks are you talking about? Just the kind you can buy at the store? That's crazy that your state would require a permit for you to shoot those.

Last time I looked into it the permit was for class B fireworks, the large ones used in public shows.

Class C (consumer type ones) are not in the same class.

Class C fireworks.  Anything that leaves the ground is not legal in VA.  I buy stuff in PA every year & set it off illegally.  Well, this year - I decided to get a permit for a "fireworks show".  But, it seems I need insurance for the "show".  This is on my own property, with no invited guests.

Idaho wont even allow permits, I think they should. I have been doing the same as you, buying a ton on illegals and then having a great 4th!! The fine in my area for lighting them off is only 100$ so it's cheap, I'm sure the rpocess your going through will cost you more then 100$, the 200k ins would prob cost 400-500$.....

How much is the fine in your area?? (may be cheaper just to set aside fine money )

I have no idea how much the fine is.  I'll probably just put aside fine $.  In my old neighborhood (in CO), the cops would block off the culdesac FOR US & watch the show.

You can get permits?

How much do they cost?!

Next year I guess I could get some mortars and good bottle rockets.
