Today I got a letter from Congressman Kevin Brady (TX, R) in regards to an e-mail I sent him some time ago. Here’s his stand on the 2nd Amendment.
“’Dear Mr. F…’
Thanks you for taking the time to contact me with your concerns on gun control legislation. I am glad to know of your interest in this matter and appreciate your views.
Due to the increase in high-profile, gun-related violence, proponents of gun control legislation have stepped up their attack on out Second Amendment rights. I believe it is outrageous that these groups and individuals are using such tragedies to further their own political agendas. As a strong supporter of our 2nd Amendment rights, I believe tougher enforcement of our nation’s existing gun laws must be done before any more laws are enacted and put into the books.
You may be glad to know that I am a cosponsor of legislation which helps ordinary citizens keep their Second Amendment rights. H.R. 1460, The Second Amendment Rights Protection Act of 2001, prohibits the use of federal funds for any system that doesn’t require the immediate destruction of the private information of people who have applied for firearm permit after the information is used and provides that a person aggrieved by a violation of this Act can bring an action in Federal district court and, if successful, to receive damages.
It is illogical and unfair that current crime prevention tactics intend to make society safer by denying law abiding citizens the right to defend themselves with a firearm. Such policies fail to recognize that criminals, not guns, are the root cause of crime and violence in America. As your representative in the U.S. House of Representatives, you can be assured that I will continue working to uphold the Second Amendment right of American citizens to keep and bear arms.
Once again, thank you for sharing your views. If I may be of assistance in the future, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Kevin Brady”
