I'll add, having thought about it for a bit during my nice long hot shower, that the parents (1) had a mentally disabled child who would need lifelong care, (2) had gone through a high-dollar divorce, and (3) the father at least had high income and a responsible job. This tells me that they probably were aware of the need for a trust fund for care of their child in case anything happened to them, and that they probably made use of the legal talent that they could afford to set up such a trust. I believe that such trusts usually include protection against being looted for tort liability.
Where those funds would go after both died is anyone's guess. I'll assume the victims and/or their families have their own lawyers who have looked into it.
Further, as Adam murdered his mother, he would be prohibited from inheriting any of her estate, unless CT law is radically different from most or all other states. While there might be a claim against her estate based on negligence in raising a monster, by the time the lawyers got done arguing about that, and note above about trust funds, there probably wouldn't be a lot left to dish out.
