How can I tell what the maximum external monitor size a laptop will handle? Computer specs per Belarc. MSI Notebook PR600 Ver 1.000 1.80 gigahertz Intel Core2 Duo T7100 4088 Megabytes Installed Memory Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family [Display adapter] (2x) I'm running Windows 7 Home 64bit I currently use a 19" flat screen monitor The max the computer will run is 1600x1200 @60hz I normally run it at 1280x1024 @75hz The Intel software says it can go up to 2048x1536 Our TV is beginning to take a dump. We are looking at getting a TV/Monitor that will accept VGA and regular cable. FWIW. There will not be a new desktop or any new computers in the future, so don't suggest getting one. Thanks in advance ZM |

the resolution will be a display driver issue. Some like nvida provide another software layer to let you go beyond the standard display sizes and shapes.
If you are worried you won't be able to power a tv, then I would not worry about it. You are really at like 640x480 on most tv's when playing movies. If you are planning on using it as a monitor, then that might be different, but really you won't be able to go really big unless you have really good eyesight. |

Quoted: any modern laptop will be able to reach resolutions any monitor can handle. Really the limitation is the monitor. look at the specs of your monitor Thanks cruze. That was the answer I was looking for. I did some window shopping at Newegg. Looks like most of the big monitors will work with our laptops. I'm pretty sure our big TV is going to die soon. My wife green-lighted replacing it with a big monitor capable of doing TV or internet. |

Any decent modern laptop should be able to run a TV. At most, that will be HD resolution and it'll be a certain number of pixels. Don't overlook your display options though. S-video, VGA, DVI, and HDMI are all options on modern TVs. I think your laptop will do S-video too, which might give you better (cheaper) cable options. HDMI is good for video and audio output and watching movies. Your laptop should be fine with movies if you are OK hooking up sound some other way.
