So damn tired of these things. It's turned into a plague of biblical proportions around here. Can't even go outside and sit on the porch and enjoy a nice fall day.

Yep, they are out in full force screwing up outdoor time.

Thanks, China.

I'm waiting to test this claim.

Due to the mild climate, aphids have been THICK.  And aphids are lady bug food.

If there're lots of lady bugs around, the alternative is worse.

Kinda like barn cats and snakes.  You may not like them, but the other option is worse.

And since the Asian beetles were imported, and then they run out of aphids to eat, and winter is approaching, and they begin feeding on humans, while entering the abodes of humans––they are not nice things.

Better ladybugs than pests who eat your garden.

Aphids are FAR WORSE.  Because they feed exclusively on sap from plants, their diet is deficient in proteins so they must feed on a LOT of sap.  Meaning they poop SUGAR.  This coats EVERYTHING, making a barefoot walk across the grass just nasty.  And because that sap will grow mold, it does so on your car unless you wash daily, still you need to clean windows every 5 minutes.

If you don't wash your feet after walking though it, prepare to shampoo carpets because the aphid poo is sticky and traps dirt.

Yeah, lady beetles can be thick.  But they don't poop sugar.  Or sting.

Some of you would complain of anything.

Crap.  We don't have those, yet.  Better stock up on Malithion.  Since these pests are carnivores, killing them will prove difficult.

Do they eat domestic lady beetles?

Can you get Cyper WP?  That works on scorpions so it should kill these beetles.  You can get it online, a pound for about $40.  That will last several years.  It is a pyrethroid which is much safer to higher animals although it will kill fish.  Harmless to humans and can be used at lower concentrations indoors.

Contact with any registered organophosphate like Malithion will also work.

I know this from pecan orchard care...we generally don't like to hurt the domestic lady beetles since aphids are really bad...and Kelthane is getting hard to find.

Here you go:  $31 a pound...but not for CT, NY, SC and VT....http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/cyper-wp-p-228.html

I don't know what all they eat.  They are similar to "lady bugs," but don't have the dots on their backs.  They were imported in a <misguided, IMO> attempt to avoid the use of pesticides for the soybean crops.  They bite humans when they run out of insect pests.  They will literally chase you to land on you.  People are not amused in this part of the country, as they are THICK.

Edit:  Hmmmm––googled and they show them with spots on their back, as well as without.  They also call them "Asian lady bugs."  Around here they are called just "Asian beetles."  Dunno, but they suck.  Bring on the diazinon!!!!!!!!

Kill all bugs with Cyper WP.  Legal in IL, not in NY.  But if you have friends in legal states...

It comes in little single gallon envelopes which could be shipped in letter class as it is only 1/3 ounce

That is why they have no predators and why you need Cyper WP if you can order it.  See my post above.  God didn't put them in the US, kill them with vengeance.  Just don't eat them, ok Whirlygirl45?  I know you are all "kill it, eat it, own it" which is cool for some things...but remember, if it lives on land, plant eaters only.  Lives in water, carnivores only.  Carp is not good eats even though it has fins and scales.

The small, native kind are harmless.  The ones that are bad are the big Asian variety, 2-3 times the size and can bite.

They are also stinky.  Well, the domestic variety also stink but these imports are really bad.

As a kid it was always special to find a ladybug and let it crawl around on my fingers, keep it in a jar for the afternoon and whatnot. It was a novelty because they were relatively uncommon.

The fricking bugs we have now are NOT the same ladybugs. There are literally tens of thousands of them on the sunny side on my house and garage. These bastards have huge meat-lovin' mandibles and will unprovokedly deliver a bite totally disproportionate to the their diminutive size. Haaaate them!

And yes, they frickin' STINK.

I can't smell them. But we're getting a major infestation right now.

Wow, I thought it was only around here! In NY ladybugs have been covering the outside of my house for the last week. I have never seen this many before in my entire life. There has to be hundreds of them just on my house. Luckily, only a few have snuck inside while the door was open.

The other day I had a swarm of them in my front yard, I had never seen so many.  I googled it, and found out that they freak out this time of year due to the cold weather coming in.  I've had many people tell me they "pee" on you.  But the orange/yellow stuff that comes out of them isn't pee, it's blood.  And that blood has pheromones in it, which other ladybugs can smell from a mile away.  They are usually drawn to light colored houses for some reason.  My house is white.

So, if you see one in your house, don't squish it, because you're just inviting more in by the smell.  They suggested vacuuming them up, and then getting rid of the vacuum bag quickly.

interesting, I thought.

All of you with the problem need to invest $55 at the above link to get a pound of Cyper WP and a pump sprayer.  For these beetles, 2/3 ounce per gallon will kill EVERYTHING.  And that $55 will get you 24 treatments which last 3 months.  A gallon will cover about 400 square feet, just cover where they are congregating during the cooler times or the areas where they are molting.  The larvae/pupae look like short caterpillars with some of the adult color visible.

Offer void in CT, NY, SC, VT.  But if you have friends in neighboring states

DIY bug control isn't hard.  And I recommend Cyper as one of the safest products on the market, just keep it away from fish and bees.
