Anybody try this stuff? I just picked up a box to carry in my SP101. Looks pretty intimidating looking at the cylinder and seeing the red tips.

I've thought about this as well but done no research.   I'm wondering if this ammo has been designed for a longer rifle barrell.  If it uses a slow burning powder you may lose a lot of velocity in SP101.

I've shot some through the SP-101 I had, worked fine but didn't check for accuracy, have shot some more through my new 1873 carbine and it shoots great, however it tends to shoot high.

Packs a punch in a carbine,I have a steel fence post that I flipped over and use the anchor as a target-the LEVERevolution peeled the steel back like an orange!

Hunting ammo for a carry gun? Isn't this a lawyer's field day? More curious than accusational.

This is ammo designed specifically to be used in a carbine or rifle with a minimum barrel length of 16", the powder characteristics are optimized for that use, it would be a particularly poor choice to use in a pistol, especially a short barreled pistol like the SP-101.

I know lot's of people buy in to this after Massad Ayoob's book in which he discusses how certain guns with crazy names and bullet types or reloading will make it easier for a conviction but I have never seen any hard numbers or post trial discussions with jurors that shows they care about that stuff.

Maybe if you loaded a shotgun shell with weird shit or altered your bullets but I can't imagine a juror caring about someone using a Colt Combat Commander or using a hunting round for SD.

I agree that perception matters in many issues but I don't think using a legally obtained and made bullet would make a difference.

If he or anyone else has some data to back it up I'd love to see it as it would be fascinating.

I am not sure however that hunting ammo is the best choice for SD. Even though the end result is the same. And that is to stop the animal.

Any lawyer who is going to bitch about your ammo, is going to bitch about your ammo, regardless of what you use.

what's the point in a .357?

The whole purpose of the ammo is to get a soft tip on round that is usually in a tubular mag

Yeah, but the muzzle blast/flame would be legendary. Especially considering my SP101 would powder-tattoo my hand a little just with regular 125gr .357 loads.

This is what I thought, too. What's the benefit of using it in a revolver?

you mean you're carrying ammo that you have never function checked?  i know its a revolver and you get some reliability there, but

I agree. Using ammo one has never fired in one's carry piece is not a brilliant practice.

Personally, I use Winchester whitebox jacketed hollowpoints in my carry gun....but then I've fired several thousand rounds of it through my carry piece. I believe it's commonly called training and practice.
