I am considering getting my parents a LED flashlight for Christmas. Something handy around the house with long burn time and good brightness. My limit is about $50 bucks. Your suggestions would be appreciated.  thanks.

Check out the Streamlight TL2 LED:
www.adcofirearms.com/acc/streamlight.cfm?page=acc

I bought one a while back from ADCO, and I love it.  It is about the same size as a 2-cell SureFire, just a helluva lot cheaper.

The TL2 has replaced my SureFire 6P for everyday use.  I've had it for ~6 months, use it at least 3-4 times a week, and I'm still on the original batteries.

I'm very impressed with the quality and the output of this light.  For $60, I don't think that you can go wrong.

Costco
Streamlight 4 AA about $20.
I've heard good things about the Costco Luxeon flashlight too.

for $20-$30 the litepro teknolight - 3AA 4LED flashlight with 3 tritium glow in the dark indicators for ease of finding the light in the dark. has about for about a total of 100-150 hrs of usable light .review here, available at pocketlights for $30, i have found them  occassionally at gunshows for  2 for $20-$25 each.

for brightness, the costco 1 watt luxon star  led flashlights, in a 2 pack for $28. about 90 - 100 minutes of burn time (reportedly, not verified by me) on a set of 2 AA batteries, as bright as a 3 cell maglight, i think. color of the light varies in tint and brightness a little, from reports, but a  good price for a such a bright light.

for handyness, the 1 AAA 1LED  $6 dorcy light available at walmart . pretty bright  in complete darkness,  small enough to carry in pockets, has a useless attachment  wire at the end meant to be used with keyrings, but usually falls off, thus pocket use.

You can also get 2 watt Luxeon Star LED bulbs that fit into 2 or 3 cell maglites for about U$35 to U$ 40.  They give about 12 hours of full light on quality D cells.
I have one and the light output is about equal to the regular bulb.

I had a chance to check out the Streamlight Twin Task the other day. It's kinda like the Surefire A2. It's a combination of a xenon bulb and LED's. Pretty cool.

+1 for the Streamlight TL2 LED.  I have had one since last summer, it has replaced my 6P also...and I'm still on the original set of batteries.
