The other day I was looking at an LED hand-held Light. Anyone know how well do they work and whats the range like?

you mean a flash light? Multiple leds work ok. We have one that is a dive light mostly. It takes like 4 AA's and is as bright as a mini mag that hold 2 AA's, but it will last many more hours than a standard flash light. Also they don't tend to burn out. It seems to take about 5 led's to make up for the 1 mag light bulb.

I homemade some LED flashlights with Ebay LEDs.  Work great for worklights and short range.  For long range you need either a prefocused LED or a focusing lenscap.

they are good for closer distances but the light fades out quickly at far distances.  Anything within 10 feet it would be fine.  You can light up a tree across the street but not too brightly.
