ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) State Rep. Tommy Wright agreed to resign his seat as part of a plea agreement reached Thursday involving charges Wright and another man were caught in a lewd act in a public bath room.
Wright's resignation is effective Jan. 3, according to a statement from Rapides Parish District Attorney Jim Downs' Office.
Wright was accused of two counts of obscenity in connection with an incident in December of last year, when a park ranger at Buhlow Lake said Wright and Charles Locker II, of Deville, were caught in a compromising position in a park bath room.
As part of Thursday's plea, both men will receive fines and be put on probation. Wright entered a guilty plea to the charge of flight from an officer. Locker pleaded guilty to criminal mischief.
The case had been set to go to a jury trial Tuesday.
Wright, a Democrat, represents House District 22, which includes areas in LaSalle, Grant, Rapides and Winn parishes.
