Anyone have a recommendation for a good knife sharpener? I would be doing kitchen, buck and folding knives. I would also like to do wood chisels too. Looking for something that is easy use. I am also looking for something under $75. I have a spare grinder motor and was looking at the wheel type sharpener.

Any suggestions? I have been putting this off for year and now have about 10 that need sharping.

This is a HOT topic. The Lansky system looks like it works great. But like the beeKeeper said, get the diamonds! I work with knives everyday. My main blade is a 24" knife that I cut 100-300 pound swordfish with and my knife needs to be super sharp so I get a clean cut. I dont use stones anymore, every thing I use is made with diamonds now. The price of industrial diamonds is way down so diamond sharperners are very affordable. I use a Smith's 325 grit bench stone(its not really a stone!) (yellow) that I got at Lowe's and an EdgeCrafter diamond file. Good luck

Go Lansky diamond.  It's great.  If you need a very fine, surgically sharp edge, and you rarely will, get an ultra-fine Lansky stone as an add-on to your diamond kit.  The diamonds seem to be slightly coarser than the same grade in stone IMHO.

I forgot to mention, get the metal pedestal mount for it too.  It is necessary for ease of use, and disassembles to store inside the case.  I use the extra fine stone and my knives are like razor blades, at least until they touch something.  [:D]  The various stones, wheels, and steels all take great skill to use, a la FrankSquid, who is a professional.  Any idiot can use a Lansky, with just a little practice to get the pressure of the stones right--even me.  It is quick and easy to put a very sharp edge on any knife.

Yeah, I have the pedestal mount too. It's a fairly cheap add-on, IIRC around $10-$12. I just clamp it to my workbench and that leaves both hands free to hone. Or you can permanently mount the base with 4 screws.

I don't have the Diamond Lansky kit but that's good advise to get one. I do use a DMT fine diamond block though, mostly for that final edge.

Edited to add: Lansky also makes a hone to sharpen serrated edges that works great. Just don't get carried away or your serrated edges will lose their factory shape. I speak from experience. [:|]
