It's no different than someone shining flashing lights in the face of an epileptic with the intention of triggering a seizure. It should be treated as assault and the response from his bodyguards, LEO and SS near him should be commensurate.

If it happens, there will be little to no coverage in the media.

It's a despicable thing to do. That being said, if the POTUS can't handle some key jingling, he can't handle the stress of the job. It's possible to be a gentleman and a patriot and still be unfit for duty through no fault of your own.

ETA: as far as "threatening imagery" goes, what would be the media response if a bunch of people carried nooses to DNC events or debates to try and shake up Obama?
