Quoted: Nothing is going to change. Thoughts? I think the same thing. You cannot remove the power and just expect the vacuum to be filled by a Constitutional Republic founded on Christian values. How long until Iraq and Afghanistan are worse off than when we went in? The Muslim Brotherhood is foaming at the mouth for the opportunity to have a confederation of radical Islamic states. |

This is what I posted on my Facebook regarding this video-
Talk about a valiant effort. Unfortunately, I don't think people are fully thinking this one through. So maybe we bug policy makers into trying to go after this guy. Maybe we catch him. Then what? Go to 21:30 in the video. See #2 in command? Now we restart this whole thing for him. And after him? #3. Cool Youtube videos will certainly whip up furor among rich Americans in front of computers, but this whole thing smells like Vietnam in the 60's and Somalia in '93. Think about it before you post this to your wall- are you ready for another war? Many people are fervently beating the drums for it, and given public opinion on current wars, I don't people are fully thinking this out. I am right there with you- human trafficking is despicable and those committing these crimes must be stopped, but the reality is that a Youtube video is not the way to do it. Guns and missiles stop armies, not videos calling for peace. We stopped the head of Al Qaeda, and their fight still goes on. They will catch, or more likely kill this guy. Then what? Maybe we wipe out all of the LRA. How many other warring clans are there in Africa? You are all calling for one heck of a war, and I just wanted to be sure you knew that. All wars start with noble causes, but seeing American blood flowing on foreign soil turns all sorts of good wishes into calls to "end the war" very quickly. |

From "Stuff White People Like": Awareness
"An interesting fact about white people is that they firmly believe all of the worlds problems can be solved through "awareness" - meaning the process of making other people aware of problems, magically causing someone else, like the government, to fix it. Raising awareness is also awesome because once you raise awareness to an acceptable, though arbitrary level, you can just back off and say, "Bam! Did my part. Now it's your turn. Fix it." You get all the benefits of helping (self satisfaction, telling people) but no need for difficult decisions or the ensuing criticism. (How do you criticize awareness?) It's a sweet double victory!" Saddam killed, gassed and tortured close to a million of his own people. How much do you want to bet these guys were against the invasion of Iraq? |
|
The LRA is down to a tattered remnant but they have nowhere to go. They are beyond the Pale due to their insane butchery and have no one to turn to for help.
This is exactly the sort of mission that SF is amazingly good at and I think it's a worthwhile mission ––as long as training the Ugandans to hunt down Kony remains the only mission. |

Quoted: Invisible Children is a VERY suspicious charity. Do your homework before giving. They've funded arms purchases for at least one army there. It seems like they're ok with a raping, looting army because its government sponsored/approved but Kony's army must be stopped. I don't get it. |
| My 15 year old got pretty fired up over this. She gave me the money to buy her the kit. It's a good cause but this all could have been avoided if the UN would not have cancelled their contract with Executive Outcomes. They had the RUF on the run then Kofi Anon cancelled their contract because he didn't like the idea if South African PMCs smoking black murderers. They also offered to deal with the Ruwanda genocide with 100 troops and the UN declined again. This type of thing shows what a worthless piece of crap the UN is. Like a giant Eunich in a whorehouse. |

Thats the thing. The UN is useless. While we're there we might lose a few of our soldiers in the process. Even if we kill the guy nothing will change. I don't see the point. My girlfriend is upset about this but all of her friends are fired up and apparently I'm heartless for not agreeing with their naivety. |

As a twenty-something, with a lot of friends still in college who have nothing better to do with their days than discuss trendy things on Facebook, yes I saw the video at lunch today.
That video is the "status" of probably the majority of college students I know. |
The Grandkid's private school was trolling for $5.00 a head for this.
I expalined that life is harsh and folks from other countries had to work-out their own problems and that charity starts at home.. I told the grandkid if the school wanted to really help someone donate their time/money to the local Meals-On-Wheels. |

I hate to break it to you but the number of armed forces/groups we - as American tax payers and voters - that have dubious human rights records is vast: El Salvador,Honduras,Guatemala,Colombia,Chile,Brazil,Argentina,Boliva, the Contras,UNITA,the mujahideen, the Shah's army, the Iraqi,Jordanian,Yemeni,Israeli,ROK,Thai, former RVN armies and the list grows and grows and grows. Occasionally,it's necessary to pick the side of lesser evil. Don't let anyone fool you that suddenly after 25 years of the asshole that the US has had enough of him. This is all about stabilizing the area due to recent oil finds.China has already bought up most of South Sudan |

Have you seen this video? An African warlord, Joseph Kony, abducts children and turns them into child soldiers then uses them to rape, mutilate and pillage for Kony's personal gain. Humanitarians from a group called Invisible Children are calling for this guy's head and US military involvement. After persistent appeals to US politicians, on President Obama's orders US military advisers (I'm assuming SF on a FID mission) are there now helping the Ugandan Army to track down this guy. This video has gone viral on Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook. People want this guy dead. I feel like this is Somalia 1991 part II. Nothing is going to change. Thoughts? Small U.S. commitment, with operations conducted by veteran SF soldiers, this wont turn into Somalia part 2 because it will be locals killing locals. Good SF mission, glad were in. |

Trust me,it's about the oil. Uganda got $3 billion from France and China for prospecting rights last fall. That is a shit ton of cash for such a shithole.
Here's another article on IC: http://ilto.wordpress.com/2006/11/02/the-visible-problem-with-invisible-children/ The funny part about this is earlier today I mentioned that Rush Limbaugh shot his mouth off about Joseph Kony and Obama sending troops there to kill Christians without knowing a damned thing about the situation and it kinda just killed the thread. |

Even if we kill Kony, his number 2 and number 3 guys, someone will pop up to replace him. Nothing changes. |

My reply: Warlords using child soldiers? Wow. This is an entirely new development. Never before has the peaceful continent of Africa seen such atrocities. Oh wait, it's actually just another day at the office.... Not that I'm not all about killing this dude, but lets not think it's going to change anything. |

So basically this article is saying Kony is all but gone and the Ugandans are safe now. Am I understanding this correctly? |

It began with Bush 41 promising 25,000 US troops who entered Somalia via a well televised beach landing. Those troops were to be used in "nation building" to create a Jeffersonian Democracy (C) Colin Powell. They were not sent there to fight anyone or train any Somali gov't forces as there were none. The SF mission in Uganda is markedly different. |

Needs less Kony 2012 and more EO 1998: That being said, someone needs to shoot Kony. His organization is on the ropes and his personality is probably the only thing holding it together. Quoted:
Invisible Children is a VERY suspicious charity. Do your homework before giving. And this. This IMO is the actual answer and the solution to the Janjaweed should have been Eric Prince's Janjaweed-be-Gone as a little more effective than green bracelets and George Clooney diatribes. Have the oil companies pay Neil Ellis and pals to clean up the mess if they want what's under it.There are plenty of men who could do in months what shitbum African militaries couldn't do in decades. |
| Claiming that it would be Somalia part II is flat out false. Eliminating Kony and the LRA would be a net good for the region. Somalia's problems are VERY different than the problems in the Northern Uganda. The LRA have almost no backing from the local population, and elimination of Kony and the LRA would eliminate a massive problem for Uganda, South Sudan, the DRC, and CAR. It is not just white guilt or humanitarian concerns that have drawn the US to Uganda, it is also the fact that the region holds many valuable resources that are important to the US. |

Sorry your lawless POS country sucks and your military is a gaggle of ineffective morons, Africa. However...fucking fix it yourselves. Our guys are tired, spread extremely thin, and NOTHING is going to change in that armpit of a nation. All that will happen is our men and women heading in harms way (contrary to popular belief, our military is NOT the fucking worldwide morality police), and my fucking tax dollars being squandered on some 3rd world shithole's self-induced problems. <crying towels at the door for all those who are faux outraged> Fuck Africa. We've got our own fucking problems to deal with right here. How about we start getting PAID in O-I-L from these fucking shitholes at the very least?!?!? |

Beside the humanitarian need, the LRA operate in a region that has colton and oil reserves, both of which are important to US interests. Further, the LRA have crossed borders into the DRC, South Sudan, and CAR caused problems for those respective governments. It is in the interests of the US to have this region stabilized if only due to the significant amount of resources there. |

Quoted: After doing some quick research about Invisible Children here's what I just posted on my facebook. For anyone who will spam the "Kony 2012" video you should really do some research before promoting something you know nothing about. Here is a photo with the founders of Invisible Children posing with weapons that they help fund to the Sudan People’s Liberation Army. SPLA is riddled with accusations of rape, looting and similar crimes to those of Kony's army. By Invisible Children's own admission, only 31% of all the funds they receive go toward actually helping anyone. The rest of the funds line the pockets of the three founders of the organization. Invisible Children is in favor of direct military intervention, and their money supports the Ugandan government’s army and various other military forces. All while screaming Peace. Before forwarding their well-engineered emotional blackmail to everyone on facebook please check the facts and don't be naive. http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m196/dv814/IMG_2941.jpg Uh, the point that they make the whole time is that direct military intervention is the answer. You're on ARFcom, we solve problems like this Kony character by shooting them. Now, the point that the SPLA is probably the same as Kony's merry band of marauders? That's a valid point. |

I was trying to burst their bubble in a sense. |
| Not to beat a dead horse but Executive Outcomes could have dealt with Kony, Rwanda and Darfur with less money than Invisable Children has raised and made a profit. But PMCs are evil. Someone with skills please imbed the Executive Outcomes YouTube video about them in Sierra Leon |
