Just got finished reading Matthew Brackens 2 novels "Enemies Foriegn & Domestic" and "Enemies: The Reconquista".  Man they were great reads! I was a little intimidated at first by the page count, but I tore right through them. Now I've got to wait for the third in the trilogy.
I tell you this guy is right on target! If you have'nt read them you'd better hurry, they probably won't be fiction for much longer!
Anyone out there have any recommended reading while I'm waiting for Matt's next novel. I've already read "Unintended Consequences"

I didn't really like EFAD....I'm probably the only one here who doesn't.

Actually, no.

(I read through all the excerpts on his page, but haven't read the whole book.  Not sure I will.)

It's an indulgent and enticing plot idea for folks like us, but the writing style left a lot to be desired in a whole slew of places.

On top of that, the thinly veiled references to the real-life politicians and the fates given to them came off as, basically, masturbatory--and slightly unnerving.

The ATF badguys didn't come across as very convincing either.  Evil and corruption for evil and corruption's sake isn't terribly compelling.

Not too happy with some of the stereotypes he drew, either (there are no-compromise 2nd Amendment liberals and moderates, believe it or not, and I know some truly wonderful people who are Muslim).

I really wanted to like it, but even just the excerpts on his page--and I read all of them compeltely--kind of put me off of it.  Frankly, it kind of becomes obvious he's a SF vet and not a trained, experienced, and sharpened contemporary fiction writer.  He's not horrible, but just not up to the task of what he's trying at.

Too each his own I guess, but if your looking for a "fiction fix" I recommend both of his books. Very entertaining and that for less than what it cost to take a date to a movie.
I did'nt find anything in the books that was bigoted or the like.
Maybe you should read past the excerpts and the first couple of pages.
If anyone's interested you can get them on Amazon.com
