I can't believe how easy it was to order it. Here's all you have to do:
Pick out your Garand or Springfield ($350-$1400): List of Garands List of Springfields 1. Online CMP purchase form filled out, including credit card info, signed by you, and notarized:CMP Purchase Form 2. Photocopy of passport, birth certificate, proof of naturalization, or any official government document that shows birth in the U.S. or states citizenship as U.S. 3. Photocopy of concealed handgun license card (or proof of firearms competency). See webpage for other options if you don't have CHL. 4. Proof of membership in CMP affiliated organization. Join at Garandcollector.Org online for $25 if you're not already a member of a CMP affiliate range. (Garandcollector.org will notify CMP in about 3 days of receiving your membership app and payment). I mailed my GarandCollector membership app and CMP stuff on the same day. I included a copy of my garandcollector membership application and a copy of the $25 check w/ my CMP forms. Check here to find a list of affiliated ranges/clubs by state. If you're already a member of a CMP affiliate, just include a copy of your membership card with your CMP order They ship it directly to your house. No FFL required. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT MEETING THE REQUIREMENTS, CHECK THE CMP ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS WEPPAGE |

I ordered a Springfield service grade and they received it on Jan 3rd. Still waiting
Yeah I ordered a Service Grade in January as well. I dbout it will be here untill April or May.
Last I heard on the CMP forum, they have bout 500 back orders to fill. |
I've got 7 of them. They are like Lays potato chips, can't stop with just one.
I ordered mine back in 2002 and I'm still waiting.
Honestly though, what was sad was that I recieved it in 7 days from when I ordered it... 3 days LESS than if I were to walk into a gun store here in CA and waited the 10 day cooling off period. |
Ordered mine back in July and it was here in 12 days. When ever you get recieve it, it's worth the wait.
Mine came within 2 weeks.
You poor bastards just didn't get your timing right! |
Placed my order for a Winchester Field Grade on the 24th of January. Order is processing right now, will probably ship Monday.
Not to embarrass you or anything, but the government already has a copy of your passport. |
I made 3 separate orders. All were right around 2 weeks. Springfield Service Grades.

So being a team member at AR15.com qualifies me, or do I need to get a membership at that Garand Collector? How bad of shape are the $350 ones? Kris |
AR15.com is not a CMP-affiliated group, so no. The $350 ones won't look pretty, but certainly will shoot! |
Dont you have to shoot a match for some type of check off approval from a CMP/NRA approved gun club and send that proof in to qualify for a CMP rifle? |
No the CCW is sufficient, I think they loosened up the requirements a while back. If you are worried about what you would get for a Rack grade(the cheapest) you can go to Camp Perry in Ohio and pick it out yourself.
use this to make the links hot. The wait time varies depending on if they have the grade that you ordered sorted out and ready to be shipped. My Service grade USGI HRA took 3 months to receive when I ordered it in March 2004. |
Not to embarras you then, why would it hurt for them to have it again then???? |
The last time I purchased a Garand through the CMP, I mailed in the order ona Monday. They sent me an email on Wednesday saying they were processing my application, and it came via FedEx a week later, Wednesday.
You're telling me you don't have an M1!? I had respect for you, you're one of my favorite posters and now this! |
Doesn't an honorable DD-214 qualify as having exp with a firearm for CMP's req ?
Yes, DD214 can replace the shooting requirement.
Grease soaked ugly wood and bad barrels. Get a field grade instead. |
I made some edits to my original post. I think you can check the links provided and get all your questions answered. |

No no, I've got plenty of garands - I'm just being pissy and whiny because CMP rules don't allow me to buy from them. If they did, I'd probably have a baker's dozen by now at least. So instead I have to pay a couple of hundred dollars markup from people who buy from the CMP, when I can find them at decent prices. I've asked the CMP if if they could make an exception for people that were actually ISSUES the garands they were selling - since I wanted to buy a Danish garand (or three), but they didn't go for it. |
I have one used by the Danish Navy, complete with the soldier's name and info on a sticker on the inside of the stock. |
My orders have all arrived within 20 days of me dropping the order in the mail. I'm lucky like that.
eta: I have two rack grades that are in VERY good condition. I'll keep rolling the dice. |
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS By law, the CMP can sell surplus military firearms, ammunition, parts and other items only to members of CMP affiliated clubs who are also U.S. citizens, over 18 years of age and who are legally eligible to purchase a firearm. |
You don't have to have a GCA membership but you do have to have a CMP-affiliated club membership. Click here and select Michigan in the state search box. With over 100 affiliated clubs in Michigan, if you are a member of a local club or your state association (shame on you if you aren't) you already meet the club requirement. If not, here's your chance to join and support your state association. |
