You could easily make an AR vs. AK paper. Differences include: piston v.s direct impingement ease of use (i.e. ignorant peasant vs. professional soldier) ease of manufacturing (stamped parts vs. forged) accuracy (including significant differences in sights) ammunition type/caliber etc. You could write a 50-page paper on that.  |

Just pick a topic with lots of controversy, AK vs AR is a good one. You can spend as much time making your argument as you can addressing the arguments against yours. ETA: 8 pages double spaced really isn't that much for somewhere where you have free range of topics. |

I think I finally figured out what I want to write my topic on, I'm going to debate whether law enforcement agencies and military personnel should carry .40 or .45. What do you guys think? Do you think theres enough information and enough difference between the two??? Unfortunately in Massachusetts I have to be 21 to legally own a handgun, so I don't have too much insight into the matter. However, my dad is a local police officer and has used both a .40 and .45. He's stated many times that the .40 spins too fast and goes right through the target without as much internal damage as the .45. Do you agree? |
I don't think you could find enough information to do that. I won't even touch what your dad said because I'm not a ballistic expert and don't want to turn your thread into a heated debate. |

Oh. Well when I was in high school, I wrote a big research paper on Pearl Harbor. Depending on how much time you have to do research and write you paper there is a decent book by Gordon W. Prange about the events leading up to the attack, however it is quite long (752 pages of book, appendix/ sources run through to 889). It's Called At Dawn we Slept: The Untold Story of Pear Harbor. It is by no means a revisionist book either, though it has a few pages on that subject. ETA: If you're really set on doing guns, instead of picking something really narrow like what caliber is better, you might want to consider a broader topic like gun control. There's plenty of crime statistics and sources out there on the topic of gun control. |

You could do a big paper on the use, types, asnd effectiveness of armor. I did a 10 minute paper with a 15 minute presentation as a college freshman. Included personal body armor and it's types, and vehicle and building defenses as well. You get to talk about guns while using a topic that people have heard more about and is slightly more contemporary when concerning what everyone hears on the news these days about in Iraq. |
hahaha yeah Massachusetts has probably some of the biggest anti-gun and anti-hunters in the U.S., or at least the biggest concentration of them. I'm really debating between the last two ideas, I like them a lot, but do you have any ideas where I could find information on the armor the soldiers use in Iraq? Since I'm still in H.S. they're really strict about the book sources so that's a big concern too. |
