When you get to that level, the planes are judged for the Build, the documentation, and the flight. It must be an exact copy down to the last rivet, with it's provenance carefully documented as well, then fly scale to the performance of the actual aircraft. The modeler usually selects an aircraft he can get access to so that he can go and carefully photograph it prior to starting the build. |

Amazing detail on that Yak.
What I especially loved about that video/competition was the attention to detail in flight. That's always been my biggest turn off in r/c planes, is that no matter how good they look statically, when they get in the air, its immediately apparent it's a model. Dunno why that is to be honest. |
