Honestly, I don't believe there is a wrong answer to the thread question. IMHO, Religion/personal spirituality is a private thing and it only needs to serve as a foundation for one's own belief system and to give that individual a sense of faith in something they can believe in. Anything more than that or beliefs forced on others is just folly and arrogant. No one knows the truth because unless there are some old folks here that are REALLY old, none of us were there to witness any of the religious beginnings - it's all faith. Embrace what you believe in and never let anyone else dictate that to you. Lord knows none of you would buy into my spirituality - and that's cool, because I do and that's all that matters. For many reasons, strong evidence being one of them, I am under the conviction that Jesus Chris is simply peerless. He is the wisest, most virtuous, most influential person in history. I can’t even imagine what the last two thousand years would have been like without his influence. There is no one remotely like him. The power of his ideas, the quality of his character, the beauty of his personality, the uniqueness of his life, miracles, crucifixion, and resurrection are so far removed from any other person or ideology that, in my view, it is the greatest honor ever bestowed on me to be counted among his followers. He is indeed the Son of God. I have been in hundreds of religious debates on the internet and I know these threads get ugly, so I am gonna stay out of it. If anyone has an objection or question that they want answered, feel free to send me a private message. Also, if you think it silly to believe in Christianity or Christ, I suggest you do as I did and pick up a few apologetics books by good apologists. Again, if you want me to recommend you one, IM me. Also, I strongly encourage looking into debates between the best proponents of each view. There are tons and tons of people on the net that know what they are talking about, but the thing is, they are usually outnumbered 50-1 by people who don't exactly what going on (kinda like me). Anyway, my point is it gets confusing. I just think you time would be better spent by picking up a transcript, audio, or video of a debate between two professional representatives of each view and learn from that. Sine each debater is part of the best of the best, then each view get a fair case made for it and there's not clutter. It's just two guys. Again, I can point you toward some good debates. |

Okay... I might as well be the one to post something longer than a witty quip. Jesus Christ. You'd almost think Christ was just a last name, it's used so often. We all know, however, that it is not. I'm going to toss this out there. I'm going to step in it, so to speak. I'm taking the bait. I should have voted for two of the options but I didn't. Oh well. In Jesus Christ we have two distinct but inextricably linked images. On the one hand, we have Jesus, the flesh and blood man. The Passion of the Christ is almost a contradiction because it showed the Passion alright, but the Passion of the man. Mel left out all of the good, divine stuff. Less than thirty seconds devoted to the Ressurection but a few hours showing everything human. Jesus was a human being who had a mother who loved him, friends and a following. Then he died and everything changes. Then we have Christ, all glory, light and halos... angels singing on high. In the image of the Christ, we get the divine. Think about this for a moment. Seriously think about it. In images of Jesus Christ, you either get Jesus, or the Christ. They're seperate images. Jesus is the man, the Christ is the myth. |
Thoughtful post, but I disagree. The human and the divine in Jesus Christ were inseparable. The only difference between him and God was that Jesus Christ had a human body, and was limited by such things as hunger, weariness. But like God there was no sin in him. |
