I thinking I'm being paranoid because of crap I read a while back.

Is the latest update for JS safe?

Javascript is implemented by your browser. You don't "update" it, unless you update the browser itself. I think you're referring to the Java Runtime Environment.

Do you even need the JRE? Most people don't, on non-work computers.

Java or JavaScript? They're two different things.

Do you actually use Java for anything? if not uninstall it.

If you do use it make sure to keep it updated as it has security patches regularly.

java ain't javascript.  if you're on firefox, version 40 needs the latest libnpjp2.so from java 1.8 to work at all.  chrome is super flakey with regards to ava and as been for a while since they deviated from "standard" plugin architecture.   what browser?

eta also i am so far removed from windows and apple... so forgive me if none of that made sense.  just make sure it's not spyware/virus/other nonsense before you click on anything.

This appears to be just Java.  It is from Sun Microsystems.

I've been having a problem with a "script" not working.  Thought it could be related to this.

Thanks for your help!
