There is this stupid thing that comes on Cartoon Network called The Big O.  Would someone enlighten The Neutral Observer as to what the Hell is going on in this show?

First off, what is the deal with the name?

Second, what is the deal with the characters?

The opening credits have a lawyer that drives around in a giant robot fighting other robots in his time off, a robot school-girl, a butler with an eyepatch firing a machinegun from the hip, some blond woman, and a police officer.

None of that makes any sense at all.

It's not too bad of a show. Wolf's Rain is better though. From the same people as Cowboy Beebop

I've cought most of the episodes, probably all of them, and looked at forums about it online and for the life of me I still don't get it.

The final episode doesn't help any either.

The Neutral Observer will have to take your word for that one.

Now what is it all about?

I just stumbled into the show about 2 episodes ago.  I have no fucking idea what's going on but I'm oddly addicted to it (have a Season Pass in Tivo for it).

Could be that the voice actor for Roger Smith also was Spike from "Cowboy Bebop" has something to do with it.

I'm waiting for the series to restart so I can figure it all out.

ETA:  Crap!  I had no idea it was 3 seasons long!  www.tvtome.com/BigO/guide.html

from Anime News Network

40 years ago everyone in Paradigm City lost their memories, and have since rebuilt. The Rich Live in comfortable domes while the poor live in the ruins of the pre-event city. Roger Smith is a negotiator and also the pilot of a massive relic, the Megadeus (Giant Robot) known as "Big O". With the help of his Butler/Mechanic Norman Burg and the Android R. Dorothy Wayneright, Roger Smith protects the city and its people from the many forces that threaten them. And as the past slowly resurfaces Roger is forced to confront the memories and the people who desperately seek to acquire them.
Paradigm City is a place without a past. 40 years ago, something happened that wiped the memories of everyone in it. Unfortunately, the people of Paradigm City were very busy before then, making Megadueses(giant robots) and monsters. People who were born after the memory wipe are gaining/recovering memories of the past and using them to build newer threats. Roger Smith keeps Paradigm City safe with the help of The Big O (a faithful giant robot), his butler Norman and the android Dorothy, Roger keeps Paradigm City safe. As problems mount and more memories surface, Roger's past and Paradigm's future begin to become suspect...

I started watch it four years ago…

Long story short – it was all a dream in the end. The city is actually an artfical construct. In the final episode, it never comes out and says it, but it allows the viewer to kind of come to their own conclusion.  Rather odd.

1. Rodger Smith is a negotiator, not a lawyer
2. The ‘bigs’ as sometimes they are called actually operate the user in a way.
3. As I said – its rather complex, which is a nice way of saying its bizarre

So...what is....

Yeesh.  Never mind.

The Big O will have to survive without The Neutral Observer.  The Japanese come up with some weird stuff, in general.

I didn't find it so much weird as uninteresting.  Wierd is the last 13 episodes of Evangelion...

Most anime is actually pretty vanilla.

I fell asleep after drinking 8 shots of Rumpel Mintze with Evangelion on. Weirdest moment of my life.

That show is seriously fucked up. Awesome as hell though.

I never could stand those shows when I used to have cable and [Adult Swim].  The only ones I liked were Family Guy, Futurama, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and Cowboy Bebop.

So, I guess you could say I like a few of them.......
