I have an old Maytag that keeps on running. It's gotta be at least 30 years old.

They don't build them like they use to.

I know this feeling...put enough quarters into the machine at my apartment complex to buy a new one...so finally did....just last weekend had to shell out another hundred for a pressure switch.

This is a Maytag..........
Both Maytags (washer and dryer) have gone tits up this summer and they are only 5 years old.  My parents still have the washer and driers from when I was a kid.

I remember reading about one that was a combo laundrymat / bar.  See if you can find one like that.

I'm sure it attracts society's best specimens.

Hey, if I was hanging out in one of those places, might as well have a good beer buzz.

There is a reason Maytag went tits up and got bought out. You just found out the reason.

We have Whirlpool, 6 years old, the dryer has already had a repair on it (last year).

Sorry to hear it, VTH.

Hey, shit happens and it is a minor annoyance.  But still, I don't like annoyances.

6 years isn't bad, it was probably something simple.

Lots of dryer breakage is due to venting issues and not the fault of the manufacturer.

They are just made by whoever gets the contract when it is up for bid.

I had one that wouldn't drain water a couple of weeks ago.  I took all the hoses off looking for an obstruction.  I couldn't find one.  I put it back together and it works fine now.

Why not go buy a new one instead of going to the laundromat?

Like I said.

My wife wanted a pair of the $1000+ fancy front loaders. I told her no fucking way, when ours break down I'll buy the disposable units.

Kenmore used to be mostly Whirlpool [110 before the model number signified this] but I see they have been using Frigidaire the last few years also. They won't hold their reputation if they continue doing this, Frigidaire isn't close to what it once was and are getting cheaper every year.

Lets see, $80 part, week of inconvenience while said part gets delivered, or $600 or a new one.

It's like going out to buy a new AR because the bolt breaks.

If you want longevity and a low price, buy the low end Whirlpool agitator top loader. Cheap to buy, cheap and easy to fix [2 screws and one connection and you can pull the entire top, front and sides off in one piece], and will easily run 20 years without more then a few bucks of actual parts. [probably a coupler and some agitdogs in that time]

I can buy a new washer and have it installed in less than 6 hours if I have to.  I will not use the illegalimmigrantmat as long as $400 will keep me out of there.

EDIT:  I see your $80 part problem now.  I'd rather ask a good friend or coworker to use theirs.

True,  I didn't realize that was the problem. I thought the machine was kapoot.

When I first moved to Cincy there was a place called Sudsy Malones.  Laundry mat by day, bar and punk rock/metal venue at night.  Interesting combo.

but thanks for making me feel shitty OP.  My apartment isn't outfitted with a washer/dryer so I've had to hit up the laundy mat for over a year now.  Gotta go today before work in fact.  Its cool though, I just pop on my headphones and play my nintendo DS.
