I was in Sportsmans Warehouse the other day and while I was browsing the gun counter a guy walked up, pretty much just pointed and said, "I want that one". Clerk said ok, handed him the paperwork and said "have you ever done this before?" Guy says no. Very well dressed, preppy looking guy around 30. I look over to see what he was choosing as the first firearm he will purchase....
Taurus Judge I guess at least he was not telling everyone around how it was the best handgun ever like some others I have heard. IBCSB |

I'm just glad to see a new gun owner. He can get better ones as he progresses.

We've all brought dumb guns. Like alot of hobbies, you wish you could have back all the money from the stupid things you brought, before you really figured out what you like.

His second choice was a Deagle.
In the end, functionality won. |

A Judge loaded with the new federal buckshot loads is not a bad choice for home defense, I know those plated 00 buck spread very little and are suprisingly easy to hit with in my little junk Cobray SxS.

I'm sitting in a hotel near "Shooters" in Jacksonville, the text in their sign next to the road reads: "We have the Taurus Judge in stock!".

I knew it had to be a Judge before I cliked on the thread.

at least it wasn't a hipoint. I tried to talk my FIL out of one as a carry piece, but to no avail. Thank God, the dealer couldn't find any and didn't know when he would. So, karma came to the rescue. We found a used Bersa out the door for $200

That's how it begins for some folks
ETA: first gun was a 10/22 |

My first gun was a 59/66 SKS. I still have it. I bought it because I thought it was "cool." It has a bayonet and grenade launcher, after all.

Anyone seed that episode of Flashpoint with the guy with a judge? The swat team acted like it was just as powerful as a 12 gauge. Then again they are canadian.
My first gun was a AR But I grew up with my grand fathers 20 gauge. |

While we may have our issues with The Judge...I will not fault a person for buying it if it gets us another convert.

Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile I remember a youngish looking kid buying a HiPoint .45acp. Said it was the only thing he could afford and he lived in a crappy neighborhood because that's all he could afford and needed something. Folks at the gun counter gave him a good lesson on it and he was very attentive. Offered to have him trade up to something when his situation turned around. Was told he came back two weeks later and thanked the clerks after taking it to the range and shooting it better than he could on his own. While it's not everyone's first choice, it was all he could afford and the shop folks helped him as much as they could. |

My first handgun was an XD40...My second a 1911.
We all start one way or another... |

I don't guess I understand the hate for the Judge. I've considered getting one to keep in the boat for snakes.

Whats the current "Hive" gripe about the Judge? Its not a birdshot thing again is it?
|
|
First gun, maybe he'll get more interested in them. I wish I had taken more time to research my first gun just so that I knew what to get. I ended up getting a SIG P229 anyways... love that gun! Not too bad for an almost random pick.
|
|
My first gun was a pistol grip Mossberg 500, and a few boxes of bird shot.
I have since moved on to a LMT, and Glock 19. |

Every new gun owner is an instant 2A supporter. It doesn't matter whether it's a $3k 1911 or a $100 Hi Point, once they own it they won't want the government to take it away.

I went in to buy my first handgun and was set on a 226, counter guy asked a few questions and pointed me to a PT 24/7 pro. I wasn't sure what to think but he had a sound argument. Buy the Taurus and use the extra money for ammo to practice, I was going to need it. That gentleman made me the shooter I am today, for better or worse.

But it looks like it has the "decock only" arrow to the left of the lever. |

Whats the current "Hive" gripe about the Judge? Its not a birdshot thing again is it? Solution looking for a problem? What if the problem is "I'm not having enough fun at the range or at my favorite shooting spot"? The Judge, assuming it stays working, which is always a question with a Taurus, might be an excellent solution. As a self defense gun? Not so much. But I'd take it over a pointy stick. Wait, a pointy stick probably won't fall apart, so I'll have to rethink that. |

The judge = death ray, right? Only for humans and only when loaded with birdshot |

My first handgun was a S&W Sigma .40..... I would have traded that for a Judge in a heartbeat.

The problem we all face as gunowners, though, are the individuals in our ranks who don't want their own guns taken away, but don't care if your guns are taken. A good experience with other owners can go a long way in bringing newbs to the right side. |

Compared to some of the other hotels that I've stayed in (in Jacksonville) during the past three months, I feel the safest in this one. The streets look grungy, yes, but I wouldn't feel horribly scared walking a mile home at night over here––armed or otherwise. Maybe I'm blissfully unaware of the reality of the situation. |

I too got a shotgun for my first firearm.
It was an Express Magnum 870 w/ a 18" barrel and synthetic stock, though. |

My first was a crappy chinese SKS. I probably knew about as much as Taurus Judge guy.
It takes some time.

First gun was a marlin .22 my dad gave me. First gun I bought on my own was a Glock 17.

The greatest gun in the world is the one you have in your hand when you need one.
There is nothing inherently wrong with the Judge series of firearms. It may not be the do all end all that some have claimed it to be but I would feel just fine using one to defend myself. Loaded with 45 Colt or .45 acp with clips pretty good man stopper. Loaded with the best .410 Buck not really all that bad. It may not win the box-of-truth competition or the F.B.I. penetration standard but raise your hand if you want to be shot with several fairly large chunks of lead moving at a pretty good speed.... Now the bird shot stuff is certainly not ideal but I still believe even #8 can be instantly fatal at close range with a good hit to the head. Use # 7 1/2 #6 #4 etc and it is much better. Ideal? No way but pretty damn deadly again at pretty close range. Would it be my choice? Hell no. |

Not only that, but his friends and relatives become aware of stigmatization and prejudice against gun owners. They look at gun owners in the mainstream media portrayed as kooks, terrorists and trigger-happy vigilantes - and then they look at their normal, gun-owning acquaintance - and realize that the media narrative doesn't jibe with reality. |

My buddy just picked up his first handgun, he settled on a Sig P229 Elite.
I thought it was a decent choice and had fun helping him break it in. |
