Putting my system back together after my reformat, and I'm having issues w/Win XP SP2.
I have no problems D/Ling from the windows update website, but about 1/2 way through the instalation the installer hangs and then gives me a pop up error msg. saying "Access Denied"

Any ideas?

Could be your AV software preventing it from installing, registering dll's or something like that.

Turn off AV and try again.

If that doesn't work, check your browser security settings

No AV software installed yet. I do have webroot spysweeper installed but even with it off I get the same pop up error.

With a fresh install of Windows XP shouldent my browser be correctly configured to run windows updates?

Nothing to be afraid of.  The article is pretty straight forward. I've done the procedure a number of times without problems.

Where is FL are you?

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open field, and then click OK
2. Locate and then double-click LogLevel under the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

I dont have the "Log Level" option/folder at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

Create it. In regedit, right click anywhere in the space on the right side. Select new, then DWORD Value. Name it LogLevel.
