I saw they have lumber on sale this weekend and an 11% rebate on top of that. There's a menards about 45 minutes away from me. Is their lumber ok? Never bought it before. I might load up the trailer and go over, I would be saving about $450 total vs Lowes.

Long as it's not 88 Lumber, G2G.

Menards is great, significantly better than Home Depot or Lowes (excluding power tools).

You talking about buying a bunk or just picking through for what you need? If the second option menards is fine.......I use them frequently when we need small amounts on a job site. If your buying larger amounts then you can hand pick it's not worth it.

its ok....

the kiln dried is alight...but you have to dig through a entire stack to find good ones.

the treated lumber is so fucking wet, you would think they store it underwater

and when it dried, half of it will be bent enough to make a bow/arrow

best part is they have signs that they wont take lumber back because of "natural drying/twisting/curving"

I DO buy most of mine there, so have been around the block...

there is a reason they have the best prices...and it aint because of quality....

Around here, Menards lumber is bottom of the food chain. Even Lowe's is better. Oh you can dig through the piles and find a board or two that are good but, if you are getting skids of lumber delivered, forget it.

I pay a little higher price at my local lumber yard and get MUCH better quality.

Exactly the same around here.

Menards lumber would be my absolute last choice.

It's been a few years but my experience is that Menards carries soft white wood in 2x4 & 2x6, and you don't get any good SPF until you're into the larger structural lumber.  Home Depot has good SPF in all sizes.

If you do get lumber there, nail it ini place fast before it can dry and twist too far...

As long as you go through the entire pile yourself, lots of bad/warped lumber.  Around here bottom of the barrel.

I haven't seen a Menards since I left the Midwest.

Does that overly excited old guy still do the commercials?

"At MENARDS!"

Just like most other places now. Have to sift through it to find straight stuff. I have seen boards so bad they would drag at both ends if you picked them up in the middle.

I don't know how to describe the Menards around here. It's like a weekend DIY for rental property quality. There is a large selection of mediocre product, fits and finishes.

Getting ready to leave to drive over there. I got nothing going on today so it's worth a shot. I'll pick through it if I need to.

I don't buy lumber, but all the stuff I do buy from those kinds of stores are more expensive compared to their competition.

They also don't stock Klean Heat, so I really have no reason at all to go there.

Better bring two pairs of gloves...they will be either wore out and / or wet by the end of your trip

Met my father there today and he helped me pick through it all. Was very impressed by their selection. And that had staff everywhere willing to help. Took us about 2.5 hours to pick through and get what I wanted. Really the lumber was nice I was just being picky about knot holes and stuff. One 16' dual axle trailer packed full and one 5x10 single axle trailer full.
