The newbies are all introducing themselves, and I realized that I don't really know much about the other ladies here, either. Let's all share a little about ourselves. I'll go first. I'm Cat, a born and raised Georgia peach. I have 2 sons, the oldest will be 4 next month and the youngest just had his first birthday. I stay at home to raise them, so I guess I am old fashioned. I do things my own way, and so I am sort of a conservative hippy. I use cloth diapers and avoid prepackaged foods. We follow the Weston A. Price diet. My husband hunts, and I cook whatever he brings home. I am just now getting into guns. I've shared the story of how I decided that I needed to learn to shoot and buy a handgun here before, but it basically amounts to seeing a strange man looking in my back door at me late one night. Ummm.... I think that is probably the gist of me, so tell me about yourselves. I want to hear from the ladies, but the guys are welcome to post here as well. |

Well, lets see. My husband and I have been married 20 years, have an 18 year old son. I met and married my husband when I was in the Army. Son is following in our footsteps. He leaves for basic in Oct. I have always liked guns and the Army just brought it out more. My all time fav. gun is an M60 machine gun and some year will get around to owning one. |
I forgot to mention that I am homeschooling my boys. We aren't doing too much yet, just preschool stuff, but it is an important aspect of my life, so i guess I should share it. I hope to raise them to be strong and patriotic gentlemen. I don't trust government schools these days to teach them the things they need to know. |
|
Cat, I have to give you credit on the homeschooling, and I can honestly say at times I wished I had. It had been nothing but an uphill struggling in dealing with schools. My son went to a trade school from 9-12. He had decided early on he did not want to go to college,so this was the best option. He has a good paying job and if he decides he doesn't like being a combat engineer then he has his trade to fall back on. We are proud of him but at the same time scared too. I am sure you will raise your boys to be patriotic gentlemen. Mine knew he wanted to go into the military from an early age. Grandpa had brainwashed him though to go into the Marine Corp. Thankfully we talked him out of it. My son comes from a long line of military on both sides of the family. With my son if he wanted our signature at 17, I told him I would not sign a contract for the marine corp, and my husband would not sign a contract for the navy. So his options were air force or army. He actually took the time to talk to all the recruiters as they came to his school. We told him at 18 he could join whichever branch he wanted without us. He decided for himself that he want to go into the Army so we signed. His teachers in school actually felt sorry for him when he told them that both his parents are ex military. |
Kudos for your son going to a trade school. I think most people would be better off doing that than trying to go to college. Apparently you did something right since he sounds like a responsible kid. |

Sorry to insert into the middle of your convo! In response to your initial post... Hello, my name is SigZiggy...and I'm a gunaholic. It's been two days since I last shot hinking.gif I am a mid-western (especially at heart) transplant into Texas, due to work related matters. Some guy friends introduced me to boomers several years ago. I did a bit of hunting (boar), a huge amount of shooting paper, and have been hooked ever since! I also love cooking (cheesecake is my specialty), driving my car really really fast with the T-tops off while I sing at the top of my lungs, hiking & camping every opportunity I get, the list could go on and on... What I like about it here is that the ladies seem to have the same realistic thoughts and attitudes about things as I, and it is great to have a place where I can be a sicko perverted female, and still be accepted |
|
ok well... my name is anne and im not a gunaholic (yet) but its only been two HOURS since i last shot i was introduced to shooting and ARF by the soon-to-be-ex-hubby and moved from missouri to ohio in april to get away from that charming mess however, several ohio menz have been quite tolerant of my ignorance and throw guns at me every time i see them (here--try THIS!!) so now its just me and my kitty cat--no kids--i do social work/mental health--i take care of everybody else's kids and after shooting glimmerman68's .38 and .357 today, the decision to buy a revolver sometime after august is moving forward rapidly--WOOHOO!!!!! ![]() |
Hi! ![]() I'm a mom of 2 (boy will be 5 this month, girl will be 2 in November). I'm home schooling mine too. I've been called "crunchy", but I've also been called worse - by friends no less. (it’s all true) ![]() I'm a strange mix of old-fashioned and new-fangled. I've worked all my life - worked well and hard to move up in my career, but I'm now a stay at home mom and that's my job. I also have a small internet business, but it's as much hobby as income source. Though it is nice when it covers the mortgage when we get blind-sided by something else. My husband likes that I'm handy around the house. He usually doesn't have to come home and play Mr. Fix it. If something breaks, I usually have the know-how to do it myself. From minor plumbing to dry-wall and some electrical. To be more precise, I can replace just about anything, and install some things. Don't want you thinking I'm a ms. handywoman - I am, and I'm not... Sort of a jack of all trades and expert at none, if you will. I know a very little about a whole lot of stuff and that, at times, makes me quite dangerous! ![]() Anyway, I've been to 2 Second Amendment Sisters rallies. Lots of fun. A good friend of mine has her CCL, and I hope to get mine soon. I'm new to gun enthusiasm, but not completely new to guns. I've seen a very little but not much. I'm looking forward to trying out some new stuff and getting some real experience. I really like the attitudes of the women here, and many of the men. Very cool. Just avoid the ones who've been dragging their knuckles for so long they've developed calluses. LOL Just kidding - they're fun to watch too. Just realized how many times I used this guy in my post - not sure which represents me better: him or

I was born in CA but raised in Europe. Came back here for college and have just stuck around. I have year old twins (boy/girl) and stay home with them. I've been married a little over a year. I've always had an interest in guns thanks to my brother who is ex special forces and currently a security contractor in Iraq. I haven't been shooting in years, never find the time. My husband is not interested in guns but would probably not care much one way ot another if I were to buy one. At the moment we are trying to find employment for him in WA so that we can get the kids out of Cali. I refuse to raise them here and he agrees. Other than that.... I got nothing.

Cat,sorry I had to work tonight so I didn't get to reply sooner. With any luck my husband and I are going to try and do some traveling. I also want to take some classes at the university. Do my EMT again, and enjoy being just the 2 of us again. As far as homeschooling,I am sure you will teach them a whole lot better. If I had to do it all over again I definately would homeschool. I am also enjoying our friends who have had kids later in life. We get to spoil them and then give them back. It is definately nice that way. |

Hi! I'm irish, I'm the baby of the family.Born and raised outside of Boston, and I have been told that I have a Boston accent(sorry, but I don't hear it). Currently, have a part-time job only as a dispatcher (police, fire and ems), though I am looking for a full time job. Not a gunholic yet...still trying to get my brother to take me shooting for the first time. Have never gone shooting mostly because I am intimadated by guns and shooting, but I've finally decided to "suck it up" and learn to shoot. Hopefully. once I get some money I can take my safety course and get my permit. What else? I'm a big reader and like trivial information. |
| I was intimidated by them as well when I was first introduced to them. Now I wouldn't live or go anywhere without one. If you have a patient gun person willing to help you out, that is a definate plus! Take your time, take care of them and they'll take care of you! |
I've been around them for 11 years, but the only I learned was basic safety rules, where the guns and keys for the locks are and how to hold a gun, mostly in case if something should happen when I'm home alone. It wasn't until recently that I started to take an the slightest of interest. Now, everytime Xerosygnal(my brother) goes to the gun shop, I tag along and try to learn something new and exciting. |

well, i'm 22 years old, middle child. i have an older sister who is married to a man in the marine corps who flies harriers. i am a military brat, have been my whole life, mother is navy. by the way she is going up for lt. commander in aug. so whish her the best of luck. born in tacoma, wa when both my parents were air force, and moved to wv, md, va, sc, and ga, which is gogin to be the last time that i move with mommy, i'm getting a bit too old for that i think. anyway i've been in ga for 2 and a half years and i'm ready to move again. i'm not gogin to because of the hope scholarship. i am an anthroplogy major, i have no idea what i am going to do with it yet but i am interested in ethnolinguistics, ehich is the study of language within the culture and primateology. i am taking japanese in college and i enjoy the challenge. i also plan on studing abroad in tuscany, italy next summer, i was going to do it this year but i missed the registration date by 2 damn weeks and i was on the waiting list, still am mind you. but italy will be there next year and i will not miss the registration date this year, nothing is holdong me back. oh, i don't have any children, just incase you haven't noticed that already, i'm a bit too young for that, m,aybe when i'm 30. cat i really respect you and every other mother who is willing to home school there child. my brother who just turned 16 on june 5th has been going to private schools all of his life because my mother does not like public schools, but then again she was willing to send me and my older sister to public schools, so what does that tell you. my brother's a spoiled brat, but i still love him. he's been gone all summer and i missed him everyday. i don't have anyone to beat up on, my bf probably wouldn't appreciate me just out of nowhere punching him in the arm, or giving him a pink belly. so that is pretty much what i do, beat up on my brother and go to college. |

Hi, I'm Tricia. I've lived in Va all my life; I am a widow (for 11 years) and I have no intentions of ever remarrying. I am the mother of four wonderful children - 3 daughters ages 20, 18, and 11 and a 15 year old son. Oh and I have one granddaughter (8 months). I would like to do a lot of things as hobbies but just can't find the time I have four brothers so I have always been around guns but didn't start shooting until about a year ago. I think I have the honor of being the oldest female on the board!

Hi Ladies. I grew up with 5 brothers and 2 sisters on an old farm. Everything we had was grown, raised, or hunted. I got my first gun at age 7, I was taught how to handle the double barreled shotgun as home defense and went on my first dear hunt by age 8. (The stories I could tell..) I worked for 20+ years in management and am retired. I stay home now, take care of my husband, the house, my four ferrets and my own business. I am Gunslinger808's other 1/2 for 23 years with no children. I let him have most of the guns he wants, as long as I get to use them. Oh, BTW, 40's is NOT old! Older than some, but not old. |

Hello Ladies, My name is Mona and I'm married to the_beer_slayer! I love going to the range and shooting my toys. Yes,I have 5 that are mine. Although,if I pick up the Brass for reloading,I don't have to clean them. Woooo hooooooooooooooo for me! I did learn to Reload 223 Ammo, but I prefer to sort and trim the Brass. That takes hours to do. But,if I help him,the more i get to shoot when we go to the FOP Range. We try and get some of our friends that come to our big shoots to come and play with us. So,anytime ya'll are in the neighborhood and want to fo shooting with us. Just drop us an IM. As there is no better excuse to use other than a good day at the Range! I also have to say,it's been nice to see a lot more Gals on the board! Congrats to you all for making it over this away! Sincerely, Mona |
No, but they do need bedding changed regularly and baths. Usually, keeping the bedding fresh, keeps them from smelling. Some people say they stink all the time, while others say they can't smell them.
Thank you lady, I have been lurking, thought it was time to chime again, GS said I did not have enough posts. MrsWildweasel: GS keeps them clean for me. It is only fair. ![]() |
| Ferrets are alot of work. They are not like cats or dogs. I have 4. They need time to run around and play. If you change their bedding and keep their litter box clean there is not much of a smell. The down side is if they get sick your vet bill is expensive. Not all vets will treat ferrets. You need a vet specialized in exotic animals. Also when your ferret gets sick you need to be prepared to spend some sleepless nights, since your fuzzbut will need to be spoonfed every 4 hours. They are alot of fun and fun to play with, and the work is worth it. If you are interested find a ferret rescue, especially if you are a first time ferret owner. Most shelters will match a ferret to you,and show you how to do their nails, etc. Also if you have other animals they will take that into account. Get some books and read up on them and the decide if they are really for you. |

Where to begin? My real name is Sara. Miss Magnum was actually a joke when I first showed up here four years ago at the urging of a friend who was dating a member of the board. My ex-husband (married at 22, divorced at 26) first got me into shooting. When we got married and moved into our first apartment he told me we would have guns in the house and I needed to know how to use them. Very normal to have two or three weapons sitting out on the coffee table being handled while watching tv in the evening. Although it made for some interesting times when company decided to drop in unexpectedly! I've lived in Georgia, N California, Louisiana, Florida, Illinois, Virginia and now Kentucky. I moved to Louisville two years ago to be close to my momma who settled here to be close to her brother. I served in the Navy as an FC, a gun and missile system tech, specializing in the Phalanx system. I've worked for Verizon and Verizon Wireless for the past six years as a central office tech and now a switch tech. I'm looking to making a move to a translations engineer position soon. ::crossing fingers:: Aside from shooting, I enjoy lifting and running, gardening, hiking with my goats, riding or just hanging out with my horses, canoeing, fishing, swimming, reading, photography, dancing and the kick-ass Mojitos at La Bodega on Bardstown Road. I board dogs that are up for adoption at a local rescue organization in my kennel. I generally have four to six dogs here up for adoption at any given time. This is in addition to my three dogs, six cats (all outdoor), two goats and five horses that I collectively call "the critters." And, yes, I am single.

I'll bite... I'm Michele and I am the better half of QuietShootr. I am a children's librarian at a library that is less than 900 sq/ft in Indiana. I grew up around guns and have a few of my own, but I prefer baking, quilting and reading to playing with them. QS does enough shooting for both of us. We have no children unless you count our two yorkies, our giunea pig, our hedgehog and our iguana. Our two nieces now live close by and we try to spoil them as much as possible and then send them on their way. I will sadly admit that I went to the American Library Association's annual conference and missed Bulletfest because of it. |
Sara, If you get any yorkies, let QS and I know...we'll be MORE than happy to rescue another one! |
|
MarianLibrarian, Will do! I'll let one of the coordinators know. As for getting everything done? I multitask.... I'm eating lunch, letting my boxer run in the back yard and checking email then back to work. I return phone calls and talk to friends on my way to and from work and the gym or while grocery shopping (yes, I AM "that" person). I'm frighteningly efficient. And I do NOT miss out on sleep. I love me some naps. The secret is not everything gets done... right now the lawn needs to be mowed but the mower's on the fritz again, I am smack in the middle of repainting my sunroom so it's torn apart and the guest bed is piled high with clean, unfolded laundry. I've learned to make peace with a little dirt and a few weeds. Sometimes you need to just stop working and sit back and enjoy what you've done so far. |

I have a wonderful seven year old daughter. An equally wonderful husband (although he doesn't like people to know it), and a pet hamster named Sparky. I am twenty-four years old, and a student. I am working on earning a B.A. in English and Sociology. Besides wanting to learn more about guns, I am a jewelry addict and write poetry. |
