What don't you like about the Patriot Act?
Be specific.
I got assigned the task of reviewing this to determine what impact it had on local LE (us). My answer: It means that in a life-threatening emergency, a telecommunications provider has to give LE customer data without a subpoena. That was the only local impact I found (unless you live near or in NYC, or had a relative killed on 9-11, then you got some money).
The Patriot Act commanded various immigration officials to to start doing things like basic warrant and CCH checks on applicants, and lets the FBI do the same kind of stuff in foreign counter-terrorism cases that they have done in foreign counter-intelligence cases for years (longer wiretaps, black bag jobs and other basics of the trade). If your name isn't Achmed (or O'Malley of the Provos), it will never affect you.
The knee-jerk anti-Patriot Act stuff is the workings of defective minds. I have no problem with rational debate over our nation's efforts on these matters; that is a cornerstone of safeguarding our freedoms, but it is really hard to have a RATIONAL debate when one side hasn't even read the frigging material they are debating, and reverts to the same foaming at the mouth crap they spout every other time the government pisses them off.
If you really knew anything at all about our government, you would realize that it is incapable of pulling off any kind of conspiracy. The occasional excess is almost always the result of sloth, greed and ignorance.
