If the continued existence of mathematics depended on the ability of the Republicans to defend the proposition that two plus two equals four, that would probably mean the end of mathematics and of all the things that require mathematics.

Thomas Sowell

Another spot-on analysis by one of our greatest thinkers.

There is so much wisdom in this man he should be required reading before you register to vote.  Basic economics is not a difficult concept and Mr. Sowell can explain it in very clear terms.  It's sad, he's so brilliant he could never be a politician.

The Republican party is based on two or three semi-mutually exclusive members of a coalition. You have to make them all happy to win. The retardation you see among Republicans is a poor attempt to make everyone happy in each statement.

What's sad is watching the R's lose the high ground to the D's time  and again because of the lack of clarity and poor salesmanship by the leadership.

When Boehner caves this time it will be another case of pulling defeat from the jaws of victory.

Yeah he has a point but what could be said to convince people who vote for a candidate if all he/she has to say is:

1 - "I will give you free shit", and

2 - "I hate white men."

Nothing you can say will sway them.  And there are TENS OF MILLIONS of these brain dead racist assholes IMHO.

This attitude is exactly what's wrong and leading quickly towards idiocracy. Instead of saying " yeah,well...our stupid motherfucker isn't as stupid as their stupidest motherfucker" it might behoove the GOP to entice some smart motherfuckers, instead of calling them wackobirds and traitors.

The dems have an inferior product that they are selling.
It would behoove us to point out the flaws and show where they are wrong.

As the article states, it starts with Boehner debunking the "clean bill" as a "blank check" and educating those who are waking up that it is the House's responsibility to curb harmful spending.
If he can't do that, maybe he should pass the microphone to someone who can.

It's extremely prevalent and near epidemic proportions to always blame others instead of reflecting internally.  If there were 10 parties would it then be ok to say well 7 of them have dumb people too? All that matters is that we are rock solid in our reasoning, beholden to our principles, and knowledgeable in our understanding of issues both past and present. If we did that, consistently, the competition would be trivial. The goal has to be that we are as strong as diamonds not hope everyone else is jello.

That's not what he said. He actually said until the voters replace the used car sales, carney barking, tax the rich you didn't build that Democrats, we're screwed.

Democrats, by contrast, are all talk. They could sell refrigerators to Eskimos before Republicans could sell them blankets.

Indeed, Democrats sold Barack Obama to the American public, which is an even more amazing feat, considering his complete lack of relevant experience and questionable (at best) loyalty to the values and institutions of this country.

But, believe it or not, there are lots of citizens and voters outside the Beltway. And what is believed by those people whom too many Republicans are talking past can decide not only the outcome of this crisis but the fate of the nation for generations to come.

Boehner didn't make a cogent statement after the White House meeting because Boehner doesn't understand what's going on.

yet, with multiple television network cameras focused on Speaker Boehner as he emerged from the White House, he couldn't be bothered to prepare a statement that would help clarify a confused situation

This has been my biggest complaint about the GOP.  It isn't just Boehner it is most of the Republicans.  The only two that seem to give a damn and actually put in effort and Rand Paul and Ted Cruz.  Rand Paul did his filibuster and then made statements and went on tv news shows.  Ted Cruz did his filibuster and before even going to sleep he was on tv news shows.  They put in a ton of effort and still were able to make statements.

Are you really trying to compare a couple of do nothing legislators elected because of their race and voting district with the Speaker of the House elected by the entire party?  Yeah there are poor politicians in both parties...sadly only the GOP makes them the party leaders.

Part of the problem stems from the idea that if you know 2+2=4 (to use Sowell's comparison), you assume it only makes sense for everyone else to know the same.  Republicans often don't feel the need to explain things they think are self-evident.

Some are useless party apparatchiks, of course, but many others just can't quite comprehend that there are people who are oblivious to the obvious.

Take the SF bay Dems cited a couple days ago who were stunned that they were going to be the ones paying $10K extra per year for Obamacare.  To the Republicans and people opposing it, of course that's why.  To those on the left, who exist in an intellectual vacuum where all opposition is based on racism or hatred, who project onto others in the political spectrum all of their own vices, they simply don't know these things.  The idea that money has to come from somewhere is alien to them.  They've been told it's all hate and racism, and that's the breadth of their knowledge on any kind of political debate.

To some Rs, it doesn't occur to them to break it down Barney-style.  And some are just idiots or RINOs, too.
