I just got a new PC and I installed my old HD in it as a slave drive.  My old address book is on the old HD.  How do I import it to the new HD?  I'm not sure where to find it on the old HD.  I searched "address book" and "*.wab" and didn't get anywhere.

Thanks.

Right now, OE.  It was OE on my old HD also.  I'll probably try Thunderbird once I get this issue resolved.

Thanks.

I think I found it; Contacts.dbx.  Is that it?  Anyway, when I try to open it, I have to open it with something.    It wants to open it with Firefox.  What do I need to do now?

Thanks Again.

that shouldn't be it.  it should be your username.wab

once you find it.  open it  then go to file then export.  export it to a new file name> then open the address book(on the new system) and import the new file you created

Cruze5, I appreciate your help.

I did a "*.wab" search and it found my wifes and my sons .wab files, which were empty since they did not use the pc for email.

The path was Documents and Settings/User/Application Data/Microsoft/Address Book.

I have no clue where my address book went.   Any other suggestions?

can you hook up the old system to verify what address book was used ?

if you used outlook the brown  icon. you will have to backup your address book to a .pst file.

Try searching for PAB too.  Sometimes OE gets set up with a personal address book.

Depending on the version of OE it can usually just import the whole thing, just go to import settings and navigate to where the files are.

When I search "address book" on the old HD(drive F), it brings up a shortcut arrow thingy on the "name" and under "folder" it has:

"F:/Documents and Settings/ME/Start Menu/Programs/Accessories".

When I double-click "address book" it brings up:

"Address Book is curently not your default vCard veiwer.
Would you like to make it your default vCard veiwer?"  I've been clicking "NO"

Then it pops up an address book that is from my C: drive.  I know this because I added one entry to the new pc.

Well, I think I'm done with this.  I'll just wait for incoming emails and add them to the book.  In addition, I'll make a few phone calls and have those people send me something.

Thanks for help folks.

That's what I did first.  I was trying to import my F: drive address book when I discovered it wasn't there.  So, there was nothing for me to open.

if you are able to hook the old drive backup to the old system try that.

if you don't have the old system turn your system off.   unhook your current OS drive.   then hook up the old drive.  BOOT THAT DRIVE INTO SAFE MODE>   when you first turn the system  on press the f8 key several times untill it give you a boot menu.  select safe mode.  try and locate the address book thata way.   then hook the drives back up the way they were!

your address book should be in C:\Documents and Settings\PROFILENAME\Application Data\Microsfot\Address Book

Check in there on your old drive. If you were using OE, it should be stored there. Unless you changed the default place on the old machine. I don't see how the address book would of just disappeared on you. Has to be there somewhere on the drive.

I have tried several key words in searching such as *.wab, *.csv, *.pab, and "address book".  I found my wifes and sons folders (wab) but not mine.

Well Cruze5, I found the addresses.  They were in Microsoft Outlook Contact Store.  I put them in a .wab folder, I thought.  Still couldn't find them once I put it back right.  I did save them as a word doc.  I printed them and now can enter them.

Thanks again for your help.
