I like the side charging handles that some uppers have. Having it on the rear (behind the BCG)is a little awkward, IMO.

Power distribution system integrated into the rail. Optics, NVD and lights that get their power when they're locked down to the rail. Battery compartment in/on the butttstock or in the pistol grip. Battery commonality with radios, head worn NVDs and other "future warfare" electronics.

Not at all. I find all three of those in an AR. Well except the weight. I am thinking of hunting down a lightweight carbine. M4 style just dont feel right for me.

Wouldn't that guy take the HK but then also get the accuracy and just have to suffer with the weight?

If it's an assault rifle, it already has that switch.

The fanciest electronic device I'd ever accept on a rifle is an optic with an illuminated reticle and a light.  Otherwise, there's too many points of failure, and the rapid battering of recoil will bring all those failures out quickly.

And if my rifle got fubared I'd want the items separate for an E&E attempt if necessary.

I'd like to have one of those .223's that can shoot those .50BMG rounds, capable of shooting satellites out of orbit.
