After receiving a virus from a downloaded movie, no not porn, my computer wouldn't connect to the interwebz.

Ah, no problem I remembered I had a copy of Ubuntu on my hard drive. So, I surfed the web with it for the past couple of weeks until it crashed.

After messing around, I decided to do a fresh XP install. Of course, doing this, I lose all my passwords, movies, music ,etc.

Damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead!!

After the re install, I realized all I had to do was re- install the driver disc that came with the motherboard and all would be fine.

No, I didn't back up or save anything.

I am truly, a dumbass

I downloaded a program years ago for my Palm Treo 650. It was an .exe file. I know better than to download .exe files from untrusted sources but I did it anyway. So I ran the file and a little box came up that said "Donate $10" Yes or No.

I couldn't click no or close the window. So I clicked yes. That brought up another window that had all the spaces for all my personal info. SSN, address, name, CC# blah blah blah. On the bottom it said confirm or cancel. So I just hit cancel.

Then another box came up that said "If you don't donate your internet will be blocked". So I said, "do your worst". After I clicked OK. a little bubble popped up in my system tray and said "an internet connection can't be found". Uh oh.

So I backed up all my necessary shit and restarted. The computer wouldn't restart.

A fresh install of XP and a few hours later I was up and running and back to normal.

I hear ya.  About six months ago my computer started to bug out on me, thought I had a virus.  I couldn't transfer files between hard drives, so I couldn't back up after the fact.  I did a fresh install of Windows, and shit was still AFU.  Culprit turned out to be a bad stick of RAM...after I deleted all of my music and movies...shoulda backed up.  I r dum.
