Haha, my nephew turns 3 on Saturday, I told his mom I would make a Pinata, it is a Mickey theme party. This is my first Pinata, it is easy but time consuming. If you make one hang it under a ceiling fan to dry between layers, that'll speed things up. Now I have to figure out how to put a mickey face on his head, that'll be fun.

I've always thought a scrotum pinata would be kind of funny. But I guess Mickey Mouse works too.

SWMBO makes them for parties and picnics

don't use too many layers of newspaper or the thing will not break open

Why not just make it with paper and glue it on?
Link Posted: 9/29/2011 6:21:09 PM EST
Did you use the inflated balloon covered with paper mache then popped trick?

There is a way to use a grid when painting it, but someone else will have to tell you how. You can get a great likeness and no talent needed. Any artists out there?

ETA
What's a punching balloon? Are you sure they are going to be able to bust it? It sounds like tough material.

Thank you for the info, i will look into the grid idea. A punching ballon was used because of its larger size. I broke the ballon, it was used for the shape only. The Pinata is 6 layers of the Sunday newspaper. It feels strong but i will not find out until Saturday.

Here is the finished product. I failed and these kids will probably be turned off to Mickey for the rest of their lives.

Actually, for a party favor designed to be bashed in with a stick, it looks pretty good!

Pop Pops or whatever you call those snappy pop wrapped things would be fun.

we always hang the target with a rope run thru a washer of folded up chunk of heavy box card board

having it drop from the tie point after 2 strikes is teh fail

my church picnic rig up has a pulley wheel, so i can yank the piñata out of the softball champs swing

Change your language to Spanish and it should show up. Not too bad of a job on the Mickey head.

Actually if you have an iPhone, all you do is hold down "n" until it shows up.

Looks good. If it's just paper mache it might not hold up well to the stick, re-enforce it with a wire mesh

Edit:
OMG! Re-do the face

I love making obnoxious Pinatas. All the work that goes into them is worth it when the kids just light up when they see them. These are my latest masterpieces.

Great Job BStone. My daughter turned 7 yesterday and she wanted a pinata that looked like spongebob. I cheated and bought one at wal-mart. She liked it but was disappointed because those are not meant to be hit/broken. They have several strings and one of them opens a trap door when pulled. Next year I'm gonna try to make it myself.

There's a good design for a pinata.

Almost good as an Obama model.
