Was pulled over on a side street after leaving a store. License, reg and ins were all at home in my wallet. I gave him my name, dob and lic#. He never gave me a reason for the traffic stop. He came back and told me I was free to go and have a nice day. No ticket, no warning.

It's harder for me to comprehend leaving home without your wallet than a no issue traffic stop.

I've always wished I lived somewhere that my license number was an easy to remember sequence... I've always been places where it is a random number.

He pulled you over, never gave you a reason for the stop and you willingly told him your whole life story? Do you enjoy giving up your freedom for what you consider a "reasonable detainment"?

If its hot and I'm not working I'm usually in a swim suit. I'll grab phone and keys to run to the store, occasionally I forget the wallet.

Your lucky. With DJT as POTUS and all.

When he ran your license, he saw that you have a CWP and let you go. It's been my experience that handing the Officer/Deputy your CWP makes traffic stops very brief.

I still remember my DL# from when I turned 16 in Atlanta a long, long time ago (it was completely random). I've had my FL DL for 14 years and I'm not sure I can tell you even one digit.

He put a tracker on your car...you're a marked man. If you see a car at night without its lights on DO NOT FLASH YOUR HEADLIGHTS.

So what were you going to buy at the store with no wallet and only a phone and keys?

He was in full uniform in a fully marked car. If I made him follow me all the way to the police station I guarantee I wouldn't be sitting at home right now.

I did until they started letting people do it on their phone. I'm the only person that drives my vehicles.

I keep cash in the car. Do all engineers ask questions of this type ?

Not being a shit bird will typically get you far in these situations.

I've been stopped for no taglight and out of state registration lapsed.

I was just told to get it fixed before I get stopped again.

When I got my first license in Oklahoma, they used your social security number as your DL#....easy to remember, bad once identity theft became a thing.

Did you think to ask?

There is something odd about you guys that get off on getting stopped and questioned by the police, almost like you feel validated by being let off with no ticket.

Isn't there a syndrome about that or sumthin?

My guess is that he went to a store known to the local PD to be a drug buy spot and looked shifty enough for the officer to get a traffic stop and make contact. Officer decided he wasn't making a buy or selling, or at least didn't have anything in plain view that would give him PC for a search so he let him go.

Other than speeding enforcement most traffic stops are not solely for minor traffic law enforcement.

Had a weird "run in" with a cop the other day.

Test driving one of my trucks, it hasn't been on the road for almost 2 years. It won't pass smog so the tags are over 2 years out. Fees are paid, truck is insured and I have a "day pass" from the DMV (that is oddly not dated). It isn't something you put on the outside of your car though.

Driving down a main road, cop rolls up behind me, figured for sure I was getting stopped.
He changes lanes, pulls up next to me, looks me over and drives off. Almost like he realized I wasn't the droids he was looking for or something.

Needs more "I WILL NOT COMPLY!" "AM I BEING DETAINED?!" And the ever popular "I know my rights". (Said with a certain smugness and very obvious disdain for the Officer)

What's really odd is the fact that this is not an Aimless thread.

Read the title and didn't even fathom that it couldn't NOT be from Aimless.

I'm going back to bed. This Universe isn't adding up for me any longer.

I have seen that happen before.

The cop was looking for someone specific and you had something or another that was similar. He took one look at you close up and knew then and there you were not who he was looking for and simply let you slide.

My best guess, anyway.

I keep photos of my IDs on my phone. I figure if I switch purses and forget my wallet, I'll always have my phone.

Better than nothing.
