Nothing like having your life ripped up by it's roots and transplanted elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, I like living in different places, and the military is a way to do that--I just hate the moving process itself. What a pain. We left Northern Viriginia for the last time this morning. I left behind a job that truly sucked the life out of me for the last 705 days (roughly), for a much better one out west. Truck came yesterday, spent last night loading the the UHaul with the stuff we were taking with us. Should take us six days (five, now) to get to Great Falls, Montana. 2,267 miles, per Mapquest. I'd hate to be the state trooper that pulls me over, though. I wound up putting my firearms in soft cases, then locking them up in Homak steel cabinets, then loading them into the UHaul. They're kind of heavy that way.... Throw a couple of ammo cans in there too, and I've got a revolution on wheels! |
All my guns went in hard and soft cases and along with my Sentry safe and ammo, was the first thing in the U-Haul trailer. 11 feet of other crap got loaded in after. Only way anyone was going to get to my toys was unloading the ENTIRE trailer or cutting the front of it open. ![]() Welcome to Montana! This ex-PRK'er is a happy camper here. |
I hate it too.![]() We've finally gotten settled in here in FL after I moved the wife and son to NC from Kali in Jan 05 so that they could be near here parents while I was in Korea and then packing them up and moving them to FL once my time in Korea was done this past April. |

This is our family's eighth move, and my 17th (Dad was Navy). At least we've had some time to settle, which can also be a bad thing. At one point, we did three moves in two years....that was ugly. As for the guns/ammo, my wife is a Creative Memories consultant and user, so I've got three feet of camoflauge over the gun cabinets should anyone look in there. Though I'm looking forward to Montana vs. the DC area, where rush hour takes five minutes and a traffic jam is when the cows get loose on the road.... |

Moving from DC is always a good thing!!!!!!!! We're moving in 2weeks (only moving 2 blocks) but it is amazing how much shit you amass over the years. Excited about the new house being completed but it does suck just thinking of the move process! Good luck in Montana! Lex |

I know exactly how much junk I have amassed--16,300 lbs, plus the 1300 I have in the cars with me. First night was Boston Heights, OH, last night was Rockford, IL, and tonight's update is live from Bloomington, MN. Tomorrow night, Bismark, ND. 1200 miles down, 1000 more to go. Minor Limaxray family trivia--when we drove through Wisconsin, that was the last state we needed. As a family, we have now visited or travelled through all of the lower 48 states, and that was just in the last twelve years. ![]() |
