What is a new, UNFIRED, Colt SP1 worth?

Went to a local Fun store and there sat an unfired SP1 ...............

What's a good price for it?

Try posting this in the Retro Forum & you'll get a better answer, but of course they'll ask you for more info on it.

Standard 20" rifle or 16" CAR, I would pay $900 to $1,200.

More details would help.

Rifle or carbine?

Any markings?

Original box?

All Colt parts or has someone switched out some to make it look new?

Markings on receiver?

Markings on barrel?

Sling and magazines?

Original box?

Paper barrel wick still in the barrel?

How much are they asking?

If you can tell us the serial number (i.e.  SP 453xxx) we can tell you what year it was made...

The gunshop here got an SP1 in a year or so ago. Not NIB, but still pretty nice. They put an $800 price tag on it. After about 6 months they mounted it on the wall in the elevated office. Still there.

But if you go to a funshow you'll find clapped out, dirty SP1s for $1200 and up. Of course they're still around for the next show too. Gee, there's a surprise.

So I would say around here SP1s have a rather low value. But I'd guess if you put a NIB SP1 up in EE with a $1500 price and were willing to haggle you'ld probably sell it for 1200 up to your 1500.

If it is indeed an original SP1, unfired, with barrel wick, box, and all accessories, then $1299 is a fair price.

Or you can build a brand new 20" A1 upper with a Nodak Spud Lower and have a rifle with a 1/9 twist (CMMG makes the A1 profile barrels in 1/9) instead of a 1/12 that will only stabilize 52~55grain bullets.

If you've always wanted a Colt SP1, then go for it.

If you want an authentic period reproduction, build your own and save a ton of money.

I have around $700 in this one, and it is a Colt M16A1 upper and barrel (SP1s have a 0.315" front pivot pin instead of a 0.250" pin)...

Theres a well-used one at the local gander mtn for $1299.  No forward assist, not even teardrop.  Its been there for months.  I wish they would price in accordance with reality.
