No, I'm pretty sure we have. This is just so unoriginal and lame that it's not even worth associating it with anything that warrants being called "substantive discussion."

In fact, it's a dupe, because it should've been a reply, but OP decided to attention-whore instead.

Good point. I am not sure how I feel about animals as property. I believe it should be illegal to cause un-due harm to an animal... then again I am with eating meat and hunting.

I am not sure if fucking a goat actually harms them either.

Sorry now I feel mean. I'm touchy 'cause I have too many total-progressive liberals in my life. Doing my best to shoo them off but they have a way to pop up every time a parade needs shitting on. GD is as close as I get to anger management therapy.

Here, I will pose a question to a social liberal.

It seems like this discussion revolves around gay freedom. I don't care what gays do, personally. My only concern is if they impose on me or people I am close to. It's interesting that some special interests in the US view rights not as something they naturally possess, but rather that must be affirmatively bestowed by a government or population through special measures.

I think most people are like me. I know a lot of Catholics who actively campaign against abortion, but although they do not proactively approve of homosexuality, they are not trying to "get rid" of it. They will vote or speak their beliefs when questioned, but they're not trying to get gay clubs shut down or whatever.

From an economic perspective, I perceive the only legitimate reason for tax breaks to be to improve family welfare when children are introduced. The issue of adoption complicates this with respect to gay couples.

Churches obviously should not be forced to change their doctrine to accommodate a special interest.

If states are to be in the marriage business and to regulate adoptions, they should reflect the will of their constituents. So if the privileges of gay couples are less than those of straight couples, there is no foul, so long as the decision is made through proper procedures of representative government.

So how can social liberals say that social conservatives are the constraining the freedom of others?

Social liberals believe one thing, social conservatives another. All that can be agreed upon is that it is a divergence of belief, and nothing objectively provable. Social liberals are constraining the freedom of religious and social institutions if they demand changes to the sacraments and ceremonies thereof. They are attacking the representative government if they criticize elected leaders or voters.

I will admit there are people, not me, who are actively seeking to eliminate the rights of others they dislike. This is true on both sides though and has to be considered a wash.

Therefore, isn't the social liberal criticism of social conservatives just the other side of the same coin?

No, not conservatives.

Social Conservatives on the other hand do. Just pop into the "I'm a Social Conservative" thread and see how many people support creating/enforcing laws based on what their religion determines to be a 'sin.'

And there you have it.

Gays ARE allowed to marry. You just don't pay a tax to do so, or get tax breaks after doing so.

As far as hospital visitation goes, call your insurance company and get your partner put on you 'list.'

No but they're definitely trying to force their religious morals on people (Gay marriage, porn, etc.).

See Bclark1's post. for gay marriage.

I would say most people don't think porn should be illegal. Most of my friends are pretty religious, and don't feel that way. Not that I'm aware of anyway.

A moral influenced by religion is not forcing religion. My belief that child molestation is wrong or stealing is wrong is based on my religion. That doesn't automatically mean that there shouldn't be laws to prevent that behavior.
Link Posted: 11/4/2009 5:53:46 AM EST
Why do people have the need to make a post telling us that they are gay?

There also shouldn't be any tax breaks, taxes, licenses or any government crap related to a religious act.

Government should be treating all people equally.

Link Posted: 11/4/2009 5:56:03 AM EST
I wouldn't call myself socially liberal but I sincerely don't give a damn about a persons sexual preference or if they want an abortion. I think I am more of a realist as in I don't care what some woman that I will never meet or associate with does with her unborn fetus. I personally would not have my wife getting an abortion unless her life were at a certain risk. And I realize that homosexuals have been with us throughout time and will be with us through the rest of our time and I don't waste time hating them or hoping they will change.

I have my own religious beliefs based soundly on Christianity and I don't just believe in Jesus/God the holy trinity etc etc I KNOW there is a God and his son is Jesus and Jesus joined God after he was resurrected from the dead. I don't give two shits who agrees with it or doesn't.

I couldn't be a social liberal because for example while I don't care about a person's sexuality I also don't want them forcing it upon anyone and I don't think anyone that disagrees with homosexuality for religious reasons should be chastised or talked down to or otherwise coerced in to accepting them. I do think we'd all be better off if we just ignored it.

Basically I am big on freedom and I am big on thinking that differences of opinion are a good thing. If we were all liberal or all conservative or all middle of the road I doubt we'd get much done. Liberals are actually good for some things and folks who think they should be eradicated from this country are people who do not understand the root of our country. That is simply we are free to disagree and put up a good fight for our causes and beliefs.

Thankfully the far right and far left are minorities regardless of what they think.

I agree. The solution is, of course, if the government didn't spend so much wastefully, they could lower taxes, and people with children wouldn't need tax breaks.

Ok, so they don't PARTICIPATE OR ENCOURAGE. As was said before, rights are INHERENT. They aren't something a government actively does. They are things a government can actively take away. Whoever said that quote didn't say that gay should be illegal, or the government should prevent homosexuality.
