Yep I am also a first generation conservative. My mom and my dad were/are both flaming liberals. The funny thing is my mom is pro death penalty, and anti illegal imigration, and indifferent to guns. She loved slick willy, and was supporting hillary, but now refuses to vote for barry o'.

My parents are unaffiliated conservatives who usually vote Republican.  I know that my dad's side of the family has some old-school Democrat types.  I'd figure that my mom's side does as well (she's from West Virginia).

Those who vote Democrat in my family usually do so because they think that the Democrats will take care of the blue-collar working man, while the Republicans will shit all over him.  My life experience has shown me that the opposite is true.

My dad had me read "The Way Things Ought to Be" by Rush Limbaugh when I was 11. Which I did a book report on and it really pissed off my 5th grade teacher.

Same here.  My Dad was a WWII vet who identified himself as a Democrat because he said there were "for the little guy" and the Republicans were for the rich.

I'm a re-Generation conservative/libertarian.  My mother's parents were die-hard Reaganites, but my mother went a little kooky after marrying my father, who claims to be libertarian but is really an uncontrollably emotional liberal.

Yep.  I've got older relatives like that.  My father even used to say things like that about the Democrats.

My parents have voted both Dem and Rep in the past.  I'm more conservative/Republican than them and I'm a first generation gun owner.

No offensive, but your dad sounds kinda dumb when it comes to judging the political parties.  I hate that "for the little guy" BS.

+1

didn't that whole stigma come about when the Republicans were constantly blocking the income tax amendment (a tax "only on the rich")? Maybe you should ask your dad what he thinks about income tax?

I am and I'm first generation BORN in the United States.  When I first voted for George Bush Sr., my mom didn't speak to me for a year.  She is a 9/11 Truther and a die-hard liberal.

Funny how things work out.
