Here in Northeast Florida/Southeast Georgia if you keep it 10 or under on I-95 they completely ignore you. BUT,if they changed the unwritten rules and started writing tickets for only 5 over can you really bitch-after all you were speeding whether it was 5/10/15 over. |

Speeding on highways and interstates, in and of itself, is a victimless “crime”. Anyone supporting punishments for it is a statist and an anti-Constitutionalist and should never be trusted with serious conversations or decisions concerning others. Cutting people off, too fast for conditions, tailgating, left-lane camping, swerving around and/or being a menace to others are reckless driving or similar charges and should be limited at that. School zones? Sure. Residential/surface streets with limited sight lines and limited time to react with cross street traffic? Sure. That’s “unsafe for the conditions.” But there are statutory rules for how speed limits are determined there, involving speed studies and such depending on the locale. And for the tired, old, topic that’s been rehashed countless times. Radar detectors work extremely well but you have to keep up with technology, and you must know how to use them properly such as mentioned above. Don’t be in front, have a rabbit or screening traffic, if there is no traffic at all you’re taking your chances, and detector + Waze can be a fantastic combo. Oh and LIDAR detection can work, but you mostly have to get lucky like mentioned above with some defracted or reflected lazer just happening to hit your detector. I’ve had at least one LIDAR save with a radar/laser detector. |

Cop wrote the ticket for 15 over in Georgia - I didn't argue with family in the car in spite of looking at the dash on a brand new vehicle while hearing the detector go off at the same moment.... 15 over gets you a "super speeder" additional fine, which I suspect helps pay for the local PD's operating budget. 6 MPH over is a "look n sniff" stop, not a speeding stop. Son needs to polish up his projected image if this is happening to him. Like it or not, first appearances count. He's also the age where it's more productive for a "look n sniff" than an older dad type person. Waze and similar apps have taken over the detection role. |

| I still got nailed by laser even with a radar detector (Radenso XP) that has detected laser before. It never went off on that incident and the ticket stated the range was over 1,000 ft away. I now run a Uniden R8. If I get a ticket with that one I'm done with radar detectors. |

AFAIK, at least here, tickets issued are not initially reported and are simply a pay up deal. .gov gets slower traffic and easy cash, corporations get an easy cut. It takes an officer at your window for your ticket to immediately enter the 'system'. |

In the daytime 6-7 over blends in with other traffic, like a wildebeest crossing a alligator infested river with the herd. At night you are like a lone wildebeest in the river and it is easier to get nabbed. My son had to learn this. I only really speed when I have a little canary to help clear the way for me.
